Dee Edward Craig Jr.

MARKS  –  Dee Edward Craig Jr., 75, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Kimbro Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Kilgore officiated. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Craig, born April 28, 1936,  to the late Dee Edward and Mary Oma Dolden Craig, in Marks, was a retired road grader operator for Quitman County.

Survivors include: his wife, Erma Jean Craig of Marks; four sons, James Edward Craig of Marks, Roger Dale Craig of Inverness, Gary Wayne Craig of Marks and Danny Ray Craig of Batesville; one brother, Joseph “Joe” Dolden; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Luella Floyd

SARDIS – Luella Floyd, 79, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at her daughter’s residence in Sardis.

She was a native of Panola County and a homemaker. She was a member of Emmanuel MB Church.  She was the widow of Wiley Floyd.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29 at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Clifton Ward will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Como. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Kenneth I Roberson Funeral Home of Sardis is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by four daughters, Dianne Cox of Byhalia, Dorothy Butts and Ida Dean, both of Sardis, and Shelia Webb of Southaven; two sons, Wilson Floyd of Sardis and Jessie James Floyd of Byhalia; one brother, David Danner of Memphis; 15 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Carl Herring Jr.

SILVER CREEK  – Carl Herring Jr., 82, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Lawrence County Hospital in Monticello. He was the brother of Margie Clark of Batesville.

Services were Thursday at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss. Burial was in Silver Creek Methodist Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Herring, born Sept. 20, 1929, to the late Carl Herring Sr. and Maddy McDonald Herring, was a pipe fitter/welder and a contract worker with Georgia Pacific and the Local 198. He was a Mason and a member of the Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Herring.

Survivors along with his sister include: three sons, Scotty Herring of Silver Creek, Richard Herring and Robert Glen Herring, of Wealder, Texas; one daughter, Shirley Faye Kirtley of Maumelle, Ark.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Eugene C. Horton

SOUTHAVEN – Eugene C. Horton, 84, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven.

Services were held Tuesday, April 24, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Lambert Cemetery. Rev. Larry Kilgore officiated. Mr. Horton was born November 2, 1927 in Lambert, to the late Reetie Eldridge and Willie Mae Mitchell Horton. He was a warehouse foreman for 38 years before retiring from G.E., and then went on the road as a truck driver for the next 18 years. Mr. Horton was also an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Lambert United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Oma Lee White Horton; and his stepson, William Arnold Austin Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Janie Carol Horton Jones of Southaven; one stepdaughter, Oma Marie Austin Boone of Horn Lake; one step-son, Justin Tracy Austin of Booneville; his sister, Mary Ann Horton Austin of Crowder; his brother, Carroll Eldridge Horton of Lawton, Okla.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

The family requests memorials be sent to Crowder Baptist Church, 300 Perkins St., Crowder, MS 38622 or Blue Lake Baptist Church of Crowder.

Robert “Bobby” Joseph King

 OXFORD – Robert “Bobby” Joseph King, 65, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.

Services were April 20 at Waller Funeral Home. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home had charge.

King was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served as corporal during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Survivors include: his sister, Shirley Walden of Ladson S.C.; one brother, Marion “Bud” King of Batesville.

Samuel Earl Little

CROWDER – Samuel Earl Little, 81, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at his residence.

Visitation will will be held Sunday from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Crowder Baptist Church. Burial will be in Crowder Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Jeanette Turnage Chrestman

BATESVILLE – Jeanette Turnage Chrestman, 62, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at her home near Batesville.

Mrs. Chrestman was a retired inspector for Parker-Hannifin. and was a member of Central Academy Church of Christ. She was the daughter of the late Buddy and Flora Turnage.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Coleman Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Chrestman of Batesville; a son, Lonnie Chrestman of Batesville; three sisters, Sharlott Rupprecht of Batesville, Jeanice Windham of Pearl, and Patricia Gail Bishop of Memphis.

Vance Kyle Collier

RIPLEY – Vance Kyle Collier, 93, father of Ann Stevenson of Batesville, died April 24 at Golden Living Center in Batesville.

Born December 27, 1918 in Ashland to Joe Hill and Martha Addielene Janes Collier, Mr. Collier was a businessman and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Springdale Baptist Church in Ripley where services will be held today at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Randy Hamilton, Stacy McKee and Bill Baker. Interment will be in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors, in addition to his daughter, include his wife of 70 years, Laura Medlin Collier of Ripley; two sisters, Joyce Bernice Smith of Bartlett, Tenn., and Iva Manning of Southaven; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Hilda Sue Mills Ross

WATER VALLEY — Hilda Sue Mills Ross, 74, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.  She was born November 27, 1937 in Lafayette County to the late Marion Doyle and Ester Myrtle Mills.  She was a homemaker and a member of Taylor Baptist Church in Lafayette County.

Funeral services were held April 25 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, with Dan Dickerson officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Creek Cemetery in Lafayette County.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Dawn Downs and her husband Donny of Batesville; her son, Rodney Ross and his wife Sheryll of Paonia, Colo; and four grandchildren, Chris Downs, Matthew Downs and his wife Jessica, Jason Ross and Jennifer Ross Byrage.

Edna Mae McEwen Thames

BATESVILLE – Edna Mae McEwen Thames, widow of the late Julius W. Thames, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Tri Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was  in Forrest Memorial Park.  Hal Johnson officiated.  Thames was born May 25, 1920 in Panola County to the late Horace and Eugenia Ales Wallace. She was a retired from Hancock Fabric and was a longtime member of Blackjack Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: three sons, William Horace Hudson of Sardis, Robert Edward “Red” Hudson of Batesville and Spencer Hudson of Sumner; one sister, Bertha Hendrix of Batesville; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
