North Delta downs Carroll Academy 14-2 in first district game

North Delta started the district season out right with a 14-2 win over Carroll County at home Tuesday night.

Junior right-hander Hunter Durham went the distance for the Green Wave in five innings. He faced 21 batters, striking out five, allowing six hits, two earned runs and no walks.

Carroll scored first in the first inning on Jake Streeter’s double to drive home Breeland Merritt, who singled to get on base.

The Green Wave answered with five runs in bottom of the first to take and maintain command of the game. Durham’s double scored Bailey Guckert, who got hit by a pitch to get on base. With Durham and Ethan Waldrip on base, Sy Pritchard singled to center to drive Durham home. Will Magee singled to drive home Waldrip. Pritchard scored from second base as Skylar Lawson reached on a throwing error.
Magee scored the fifth run on a passed ball.

North Delta scored two runs in the second, six in the third and one in the fourth to mercy-run rule Carroll.

Durham helped his cause on the mound by leading at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, two singles, one walk and three RBIs.

Also leading at the plate was Pritchard who went 3-for-3 with three singles, two RBIs and one run.

Guckert went 0-for-4 but got on base three times on two hit pitches and a dropped ball to right field which drove in two runs.

Other hitters include Magee, 2-for-3, one double, one single, two RBIs, one run; Tyler Pirtle, 1-for-4 single, one run; Latham, 1-for-4, one single, one walk, fielder’s choice and three runs; Waldrip, 1-for-4 two runs; Chase Coker, 1-for-2, one walk, one run; and Ridge Simmerman, 1-for-1.

The Green Wave was scheduled to play a district doubleheader at Carroll yesterday but the score was not available at press time.

North Delta will host Washington School in non-district action today with the varsity team at 4 p.m.
