Bond set for woman charged in connection with Wright murder

A young woman was in Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday facing conspiracy to commit murder charges.

Latasha Taylor, 209-A Lester, Batesville, stood in front of Judge Bill McKenzie for her initial appearance in connection with the shooting death of Jeremy Wright on January 16. She is the sixth person charged  following the shooting.  Marcus Tyrone Wheatley, Jayson Dishmon, Micheal Fondren and Marico Fondren have all been charged with murder, and another woman, Sharika Harris, also faces a conspiracy charge.

Taylor’s mother stood next to her as she told the judge she planned on getting a lawyer on Tuesday.

Taylor’s mother along with other family members brought her two young children to the courtroom to see their mother.

Taylor’s bond was $350,000 and her case was continued until Tuesday to give her time to get representation.

Roderick Scurlock, 109 Cole Dr., Batesville, was sentenced to six months in jail after failing to pay old fines of $1,862 that have been due since February 2010.

“I was on the work truck but I got shot in the leg,” said Scurlock.

“When?” the judge asked.

“In 2010. I was working on the city work truck when I got shot,” replied Scurlock.

Jeffrey Young, 143 Ford, Batesville, was sentenced to six months in jail to satisfy old fines of $2,085 that have been due since August 2010.

Josh Cannon, Batesville, had old fines of $1,071 that have been due since May 2010.

He worked 36 of the 50 days he was given to work on the city’s work program.

He was told to have his fines paid in full by February 29 or serve six months in jail.

Myeisha Roberson, 226 Gordon, Batesville, had simple assault charges dismissed after the affiant, Nicole Flowers, failed to appear. She faced felony malicious mischief charges and was bound over to the grand jury.

Vincent Hall, 834 8th St., Lambert, paid fines of $325 in full prior to court for misdemeanor embezzlement.

Kimberly Hill, 2864 Manndale, Memphis, paid her fines of $305 in full prior to court for simple assault.

Camioka Cooper, 201 Leonard, Batesville, paid fines of $305 for simple assault prior to court.

Gilda Jesko, 212 Georgia, Batesville, had a trial set for malicious mischief.

Jonathan A. Griffin, 103 Fifth St., Crowder, was given time served for public drunk.

James Mayer, 1216 Terza, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting and was fined $1,124.

Jeremy Mayer, 3367 Atkinson, Batesville, had a case for second offense shoplifting continued. He had a simple assault case dismissed after the affiant asked to withdraw the charges.

He also had old fines of $1,122 that have been due since June 2011.

Kiya Cain, 103 Booker T, Batesville, had false information charges remanded to the files at the officer’s request.

She also had old fines of $562 that have been due since August 2010.

The judge told her to have the fines paid in full by February 10 or serve time in jail.

Cases set for trial

William Hervey, 4074 Eureka Rd., Batesville, was fined $767 for DUI. He had a stop sign violation remanded to the files. He was represented by Helen Kelly.

Dustin Ramsey, Alexandria, La., had a case continued for DUI-refusal, possession of marijuana in a vehicle and open container.
