BJh Basketball vs Grenada

The Batesville Jr. High Lady Tigers basketball teams split games with Grenada at home Thursday.
Sydney Morgan’s buzzer-beater shot gave the Lady Tigers seventh grade team a 16-15 win.
Grenada went ahead 8-2 to start the game and led 10-6 at the half. The Lady Tigers tied the game at 10 with 7:25 left on the clock. Grenada hit a three-pointer and a field goal for the 15-10 lead at the 3:26 mark.
BJH’s LaJada Jackson made one of her free throws to cut the lead to 15-11.
With 9.4 seconds left on the clock Lady Tiger Aleriah Flowers scored a three-pointer to pull within one, 15-14. After a jump ball with 6.9 seconds, the Lady Tigers got possession and Morgan canned her field goal.
Morgan finished the game with four points along with Tracie Benson. Jackson had three and Flowers scored three points each and Shakala Burdette rounded out the scoring with two points.
BJH 8th Girls
The eighth grade girls’ team suffered a 23-22 overtime loss to Grenada. Both teams scored eight points in the first half. In the second half Grenada had a 13-12 lead with 8:19 on the clock.
The Lady Tigers went on a 9-0 run to take a 19-13 lead with 5:56 left in the game.
Grenada regained momentum and tied the game at 19 sending it into overtime.
Grenada scored on two free throw shots for the 21-19 lead.
Tahaira Bean made one of two free throws. The Lady Tigers got the rebound and Jasmine Wright scored a field goal for the 22-21 with 24.2 seconds left in overtime.
The Lady Tigers turned the ball over on a traveling call with 13.2 seconds. Grenada made the possession count and scored the winning basket.
Wright led the Lady Tigers with 10 points. Other scorers include Bean, five points; Jaterrica Amos, four points; Alexis Smith, two points and Caroline Dickins, one point.
BJH Boys 7th
The Batesville junior high seventh grade boys defeated Grenada 26-11.
It was head coach Artee Smith’s 30th birthday and the players wanted to win for him.
The Tigers went on an 8-0 run holding Grenada scoreless until 6:46 on the clock. The Tigers led 15-5 at the half.
The domination for the Tigers continued in the second half as Grenada could not get much going. The Tigers outscored Grenada 11-6 in the second half.
Scoring for the Tigers were Cornelius Lee, seven points; Eli Wilson, six; Antonio Harris, three; Chad Sanford, Kevin Cartwright, Ernest Sanford, Keshun Langston and Akira, two each.
BJH 8th Boys
The eighth grade boys game went a different direction as Grenada defeated the Tigers 31-25.
Grenada jumped to an 11-2 lead with 7:54 left in the first half. The Tigers were only able to add three more points in the half and Grenada led 17-5 at the half.
The Tigers pulled themselves together and started the second half on a better note. They outscored Grenada 9-2 to pull within five of Grenada, 19-14, with 7:25 left in the game.
Grenada took a 27-18 lead with 2:12 left but the Tigers continued to battle and pulled with in four of Grenada with 23:3 seconds left.
Scoring for Batesville were Donald Twilley with eight points followed by Jaylon Ford with seven, Kasey Hankin, five; Jordin Smith, three and Kennon Johnson, two.
The Tigers will be back in action hosting their biggest rival Thursday when the Pope Bull Dogs come to town. The games start at 5 p.m.
