Extremely high blood alcohol content draws judge’s reprimand, jail time, fine

By Emily Williams

In Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday, Judge Bill McKenzie found a man guilty of DUI-second after it was determined that the defendant had registered .29 blood alcohol content when he was stopped by Batesville police. The legal limit in Mississippi is .08.

James Williams, Lawrence Brothers Road, Batesville, told the judge the only reason the officer pulled him over was because they were looking for a blue truck like his.

Williams also had a no driver’s license charge.

“Were you drinking?” asked McKenzie.

“Well, I drank a few pints,” replied Williams.

McKenzie asked Officer Will Parrish if he had ever registered someone that high on the intoxilyzer.

“Yes, I have. He was over three times above the legal limit,” officer Parrish replied.

“You are going to run over someone and end up in the penitentiary. No one can afford to drink and drive,” McKenzie ruled as he sentenced Williams to jail and fined him $1,563.
