Tigers remain perfect

The South Panola Tigers remain undefeated as they played their first two home games Thursday and Friday night.

Thursday night was a rematch with Cleveland but the Tigers edged past them 48-42.

Both teams came out sluggish but the Tigers led 14-12 at the half. The Tigers took a 27-19 lead in to the final quarter.

The Tigers held on to the lead in the fourth but Cleveland fought hard. With 1:28 on the clock senior forward James Watson hit a three giving the Tigers a 40-34 lead. With less than one minute left, the score stood 44-39 in favor of the Tigers. Cleveland fouled sending Watson to the free throw line for the 46-39 lead. R. J. Scott added the last two points for the Tigers.

Watson scored 23 points, had two rebounds and was nine of 10 from free throw line.

Other scorers for the Tigers include Scott, eight points; Oxcavious Poole, five points, five rebounds; Kendall Turner, four points, three rebounds; Troy Collins, three points, three rebounds; Myron Powell and Andre Harris, two points each; and Jaylen Lee, one point.

The Tigers had 21 rebounds, 11 turnovers and shot 67 per cent from the free throw line.
vs. Water Valley

Friday night’s game against Water Valley was no match for the Tigers as they defeated the Blue Devils 35-18.

The first quarter was the only match for the Tigers as both teams scored nine points. The rest of the game the Tigers added 26 points while the Blue Devils added nine.

Watson led the team with 12 points. Other scores were Lee,  seven points; Collins, six; Turner, four;  Booker, Madison and Poole, two each.  Lee had 12 rebounds and Poole had 11 rebounds.

The Tigers shot 36 percent from the free throw line and had nine turnovers. The Blue Devils shot 39 free throws.

The Tigers will be back in action tonight as they host Horn Lake for the last game before Christmas break. On January 6 they open district action hosting Grenada.

SP Jr. Varsity

The South Panola Tiger’s junior varsity boy’s basketball team got off to a good start Thursday night when they hosted Cleveland and came out on top 31-19.

The Tigers led 10-6 at the half.

The Tigers shot 80 percent from the free throw line.

Friday night the Tigers defeated Water Valley 33-19 before their home crowd.

The Tigers led 17-6 at the half.  

Keean Hentz led the team with eight points. Other scorers include, R. J. Scott, six; Statavius Miles, five; Josh Madison, four; Antoine Attaway, three; Kamdon Edwards, three; Webster and Jordan Matthews, two each.

The Tigers shot 63 percent from the free throw line.
