A weekend hit-and-run in the county ended with the arrest of two people after Batesville police allegedly found a loaded pistol and 70 bags of marijuana.
The November 26 police report states that officers arrested Keith C. Thompson of Marks, who was the driver, and passenger Mark Allan Wesley, of Greenville.
Wesley is charged with possession with intent to distribute. A pat down of Wesley allegedly revealed baggies of marijuana and cash, and a set of digital scales was found inside the car according to the report.
The report from Patrolman Shelby Singleton also describes how the officer found a loaded Hi-Point pistol under the passenger’s seat.
Wesley was also charged with possession of a firearm while allegedly possessing illegal narcotics.
Thompson was charged with no drivers license and no insurance, and no automobile tag. He also faces a misdemeanor charge after a pat down found half of a hydrocodone pill in his pants pocket.
Singleton’s report states that a sheriff’s dispatcher sent out a “BOLO” — be on lookout for — after a damaged gold Buick fled the scene of a wreck on Tocowa Road.
Singleton spotted a car matching that description near Highway 35 and pulled it over at Pearson and Hays streets in west Batesville.
The police report states that a second pistol magazine, for a .380, was found under the car seat with the Hi-Point pistol.
Officers asked the suspects about a second firearm but their answer was redacted from the report.
