Habitat seeks help to build new home

By John Howell Sr.

Panola Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers, especially those experienced with hands-on foundation work, to begin construction Saturday on the local chapter’s ninth home.

Ground will be broken — literally — at noon  as volunteers dig footings for a four-bedroom, two-bath home for the Regina Morgan family at 119 Everette Street, near Patton Lane, local Habitat volunteer Mary Murphy said.

Habitat for Humanity is an international, non-profit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry that uses volunteer labor and donations of money and materials to build simple, decent housing in partnership with the families who will occupy them, according to its web site, www.habitat.org.

The homes are sold to the families at no profit with interest-free loans. The mortgage payments are then used to build more Habitat homes.

Family members will work along with volunteers to construct the home.

For further information contact Ted Stewart, 934-0437; James Sanford, 710-4018 or Steve Crafton, 563-9778.

Bishop E. M. Fondren is president of the Panola County chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Monetary donations may be sent in care of Bishop Fondren at P. O. Box 540, Batesville, MS 38606.

Other Panola chapter board members include Bob Wadsworth, Sarah Dell Gray, John Howell, Justin Hill, Jeff Herron and Connie Hawkins.
