Same story. Different game.
North Panola (0-6) has played six games this season and the team was shutout for the fifth time as it fell to M.S. Palmer of Marks, 22-0.
By this time of the season, first year head coach Robert Hunter was expecting to have at least two wins, if not more, to the team’s credit than no wins. He definitely did not expect to only have scored 24 points in six games. All those points came in one game against South Pontotoc.
Frustrations are mounting on the team as one North Panola player took a retaliatory swing at a Palmer player and was ejected with 1:26 to go in the game which means he has to sit out Friday’s game against Winona. Winona is tied in first in 3-3A with Palmer and Charleston with a 4-3 overall, 1-0 district record.
Jalissa Salter and Gegarius Hines were crowned Mr. and Miss Homecoming 2011 and Jessica Webb and Cordarryl Phllips were presented as Mr. and Miss North Panola High School during homecoming festivities. The halftime show was highlighted as former queens preceded the introduction of the homecoming court which included the elementary and junior high schools.
North Panola had 143 yards of total offense including 100 passing and 43 rushing. Palmer had 367 yards of total offense, all rushing.
Cougar quarterback Martavius Butler completed seven of 16 passes for 91 yards and two interceptions.
Jatavius Farmer was the leading receiver with 35 yards on two catches, followed by Cedric Clay with 31 yards on two catches. Willie Hibbler had one catch for 22 yards.
Darius Jackson was the leading rusher with 10 yards on two carries and had one reception for four yards.
Kickoff in Winona is 7 p.m. per Mississippi High School Activities Association rules. Games beginning in October have a start time of 7 p.m.
