Three shoplifting cases heard in municipal court

A married couple decided they did want to proceed with a domestic violence case after speaking to Judge Bill McKenzie in Batesville Municipal Court held on Wednesday.

Christopher Webster, 754 Tubbs Rd., Batesille, told the judge he knew he was guilty of domestic violence-simple assault against his wife, Rachel Webster, who was the affiant.

“I admit to hitting her. We were both fighting,” said Webster.

The affiant pointed at her eye telling the judge she had a black eye.

“I got a black eye too! I am just blacker than you and you can’t see it!” Christopher Webster responded.

A trial was set for September 28.

Shaquana Harris, 406 Curtis Rd., Batesville, failed to appear to answer possession of marijuana.

Davlyne Parker, 119 1/2 Field St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to simple possession of a controlled substance and open container. She was fined $724.

Dwan Anderson, 4086 Curtis Road, Batesville, failed to appear to answer shoplifting charges.

Lasharonda Jordon, 76 Hill Rd., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting. She was fined $1,124.

Stephanie Rogers, 179 CR 369, Oxford, had a case for shoplifting (second) and contempt of court continued.

Quentin Faulkner, 208 Pearson, Batesville, was fined $324 for disorderly conduct-failure to comply.

John E. Collins, 4996 Curtis, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to DUI. He was fined $770.

Melinda Tramel, 36 Ramsey Circle, Sardis, had old fines of $767 that have been due since May 2010. She told the judge she had been in and out of the hospital.

The judge told her to return to court with proof of being hospitalized.

Derek Pegues, 121 Pegues Circle, Batesville, failed to appear to answer old fines of $790 that have been due since July 2009.

Scarlett Fowler, 321 CR 204, Oakland, had old fines of $980 that have been due since January 2008.

She was sentenced to 30 days in jail with seven days credit for time served.

The district attorney has a hold on her for other charges.

Johnny Youngblood, 407 Alcorn, Sardis, failed to appear to answer contempt of court-old fines of $1,696 that have been due since July 2010. Alright Bonding was notified.

Cases set for trial

Qualesha Turner, 200-B Leonard, Batesville, was found guilty of improper equipment and fined $135 after a short trial.

KeiJuhi Thomas, 200 King, Batesville, had a charge held in his absence after failing to appear to his trial set for careless driving, no seat belt and no proof of insurance.

Thomas was found guilty after Officer Hubbard gave testimony and was fined $784.

Tammy Mitchell, Batesville, was found guilty of disorderly conduct-failure to comply and fined $624.

Kendra Mitchell, 110 Williams, Batesville, was fined $624 for domestic violence-simple and disorderly conduct-failure to comply.

She had old fines of $1,023 that have been due since October 2008.

She paid her fines in full after court.

Shacora Eckles, 204 North, Clarksdale, had a shoplifting case dismissed.

James Dendy, 3913 Hwy. 82, Stewart, was represented by attorney K. Horan for DUI-second (other) and no proof of insurance.

The charge for no proof of insurance was dismissed after he provided proof.

He had his DUI charge reduced to a DUI-1 and was fined $770.

Jessie J. Simmerman III, 750 Jamison Rd., Marks, was fined $101 for expired tag.

Travis S. Hunt, 28560-B Hwy. 51 North, Como, was fined $505 for speeding and driving while license suspended.

Jamarlia Ladd, 1105 B Hawkins, Courtland, was fined $370 for driving while license suspended.
