Jeremy Massie has been the dominant pitcher all summer in the Cotton States League, and it was his performance on the mound that helped the North Delta Dealers to capture the 2011 tournament championship with a 15-3 rout of Golden Triangle on Sunday, July 24.
“He’s phenomenal. He’s just a strike thrower that has command of four pitches, and at any level, that’s good,” Dealers Head Coach John Walker said. “If you’re in a count with a pitcher and you’re expecting a fast ball, and he can throw any of four pitches, that’s an advantage. That’s a testament to his hard work and what he’s been able to do all summer.”
Massie entered the championship game with a 0.00 ERA, not allowing a single earned run in seven appearances for a total of 47 innings. He finished the season with a perfect 8-0 record with an ERA of 0.52 in 51.2 innings which, included a no hitter to clinch the regular season championship.
Massie had 54 strikeouts and was ranked second in the league, and he had only 13 walks. The combined league batted a dismal .154 against Massie.
When interviewed after the championship game, Massie attributed much of Dealers success to great defense and timely hitting. Massie along with other Northwest team members Jeremy Carlisle and Dylan Castoria were named to the 2011 ALL-CSBL Team. Other Northwest players who played with the Dealers included Cody Carson, Josh Hopkins, Luke McCullough, and Watt McCullough.
