Jessie Allen

COMO – Jessie Allen, 78, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at The Med in Memphis.

Services were held Saturday at Springfield M.B. Church. Burial was in Springfield Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Allen was a construction worker.

Survivors include: his wife, Earline Danner Allen; three sons, Dewayne Allen of Senatobia, Calvin Allen of Horn Lake and Jessie Allen Jr. of Memphis; three sisters, Joyce Lee Allen and Doretha Jackson, both of Senatobia, Wyvonnie Lewers of Como; one brother, Wesley Allen of Memphis; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Barbara Ann Bryant Cooksey

LAKE – Barbara Ann Bryant Cooksey, 46, a resident of Lake passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011,  at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Wolfe Funeral Home in Morton today at 10 a.m. with graveside services at 5 p.m. in the Curtis Union Church Cemetery in Batesville. Officiating will be Rev. Larry Duncan, Rev. Earl Clark and Bro. Eugene Howell.   

Cooksey was a Baptist and was employed with Rush Health Systems in Morton.

She was the daughter of the late J.C. Bryant and Geneva Shields.

She is survived by her husband, Wally Cooksey of Lake;  one son, Joey Bryant of Lake;  three sisters, Norma Bryant of Victoria, Texas; Lois Ann Bryant and Nancy Bryant; one brother, Willie Bryant of Batesville; two grandchildren.

Jimmy Harold Grace

BRUCE – Jimmy Harold Grace, 58, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were held Monday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home. Dr. Daniel Hathorne and Darrell Logan officiated. Burial was in Memory Memorial Garden in Bruce. Parker Memorial Funeral Home had charge.

Grace, born Dec. 24, 1952, in Sledge, to the late Willie Clarence and Freddie Crawford Grace, was a member of Bruce First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Gideons International and Yoda Creek Golf Club and was an insurance agent for Family Heritage Life Insurance Company.

Survivors include: his wife, Cheryl Johnson Grace of Bruce; one daughter, Amanda Stone of Oxford; two sons, Robbie Grace of Brewton, Ala. and Corey Grace of Corinth; three sisters, Joyce Jarrett of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Betty Britt of Batesville and Wanda Brown of Senatobia; four brothers, Willie Grace of Sarah, Donnie Grace, Philllip Grace and Dwight Grace, all of Senatobia and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Gideon’s Bible International.

Viola Taylor

SENATOBIA – Viola Taylor, 86, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at her residence.

Services were held Saturday at Hunter’s Chapel M.B. Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

She was a member of Hunter’s Chapel M.B. Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Rev. Eddie Taylor; two daughters, Emma Jackson of Memphis and Ruby Brooks of Senatobia; two sons, Robert Lee Boyce of Senatobia and Eddie Taylor Jr. of Memphis; four sisters, Annie Mae Jennings of Como, Clara Hulette and Williet Hulette, both of Senatobia and Annie B. Glover of Coldwater; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Clinton Ray Turner

BATESVILLE – Clinton Ray “Rabbit” Turner, 73, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at his residence.

Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Kilgore officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Turner, born Aug. 28, 1937, in Crowder, to the late Clint and Pauline Turner, was a farmer and a member of Crowder Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Peggy Rotenberry Turner of Crowder; one daughter, Stacy Turner Gee of Como; one son, Steve Turner of Como; one brother, William L. Turner of Crowder; four sisters, Bennie Turner Vail of Baton Rouge, Shirley Turner Rotenberry and Lilly Turner Newton, both of Crowder, Bonnie Turner Burks of Memphis; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Ann Hallmon

BATESVILLE – Carolyn Ann Hallmon, 50, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at First Oak Grove M.B. Church in Crowder, Pastor John Crowder will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and from noon – 1 p.m. at First Oak Grove M.B. Church.

Hallmon, born Aug. 5, 1960, in Marks, to Henry Hallmon and Josephine Booker Hallmon, was a retired factory worker for Batesville Casket Company and a member of First Oak Grove M.B. Church.

 Survivors include: her parents, Henry and Josephine Hallmon; three daughters, Whitney Smith and Yolanda Hallmon, both of Batesville and LaKeysha Hallmon of Atlanta; one son, Rodrick Hallmon of Batesville; two sisters, Felisha Hallmon of Crowder and Suyvone Henderson of Olive Branch; four brothers, Tony Ray Hallmon of Sardis, Charles Hallmon of Jefferson City, Mo., Erick Hallmon of Crowder and Greg Hudson of Clarksdale and one grandchild.

Lena Finch Whitten

BATESVILLE – Lena Finch Whitten, 92, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley.

Graveside services were held Monday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Whitten, formerly a salesperson for Ben Franklin Stores, was a member of Church of Christ in Water Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Whitten Sr. Survivors include: one son, Willie L. Whitten of Southaven and three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
