The 6-year-old Batesville All-Star team had one of the toughest schedules in the J. P. Hudson Dizzy Dean Bash June 24-26.
However, they made it look easy.
The Batesville team came in to second place to a Southaven team in which one of the players hit the ball clearly over the fence for a two home runs that weekend, once against Batesville.
In the first game of the tournament Friday night, Batesville defeated the Tate County All-Stars 18-0.
Saturday morning, Batesville took on the Hernando Heat and won 24-17.
The game was tied at seven following the first inning as both teams scored the maximum runs allowed per inning.
Batesville went ahead 14-12 after holding Hernando to five runs in the second inning and scoring seven.
The defenses for both team got tougher as the game progressed. In the third inning, Batesville scored five runs and held Hernando to three for a 19-15 lead.
Hernando scored its final two runs in the fourth and was held scoreless in the fifth which gave Batesville the victory.
Batesville put five more runs on the board in bottom of the fourth.
All Batesville players got a hit and/or scored runs.
Brayden Martin went 3-for-4 with three runs. Logan Lipscomb went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four runs. Noah Lovelady also went 4-for-4 with four runs.
Also perfect at the plate was Owen Gayden, 4-for-4, with two doubles, four runs and four RBIs (runs batted in).
Eli Russell went 3-for-4 with two runs as did Anderson Gentry.
Brock Ware was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
Also hitting were Jaiden McKinney, 3-for-3, two runs; Jack Clayton, 2-for-3; Mitch Mitchell, 3-for-3, one run, one RBI; and Baylor Scammon, 3-for-3, two runs.
Later on Saturday, Batesville met up with the Southaven Americans and lost 19-5 in four innings.
Batesville’s scored two runs in the first by Martin and Lipscomb and three in the third inning by Lipscomb, Lovelady and Gayden.
The 6-year-olds played for the state championship in Grenada last weekend but the results were not available due to early press deadlines.
