B/G Club to host P-H-R competition

The Boys & Girls Club in Batesville will host a Pitch, Hit and Run competition on Friday, May 6, at 4 p.m. for area youth. The program recognizes individual excellence in core baseball and softball skills.

The event is affiliated with Major League Baseball and local youngsters will have the opportunity to advance through four levels of competition.

Competitors from age 7 to 14 will be divided into four age groups. Individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with an all-around champion in each age group, will be awarded and will advance to the sectional level of competition.

All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration form prior to the competition. For information, contact coordinator Dennis Hoskins at 578-7309.

Sign up for Racing for Paws 5K run

Panola County Humane Society will hold the Fourth Annual Racing for Paws 5K to be run Saturday, May 14.

The event on the downtown Square coincides with the annual Springfest weekend.

The race will begin at City Hall at 8 a.m. and end on the Public Square about 9:15.

Registration fee is $20.

New features to the 2011 Race:

•First place prize for top female and male finishers increased to $200.
