The South Panola football team was hard at work last week as spring practice started Monday. The Tigers are preparing for their spring game on May 12 when they take on Greenville High School in Greenville. The time has not been set.

Tiger head coach Lance Pogue said practice went well the first week.

“The kids had a great attitude and a tremendous enthusiasm. We’re taking it slow with so much inexperience on the offensive line and secondary on defense but making progress.”

The Tigers saw a new face on the field when Danny Robertson was hired as the new offensive line coach a few days before practice began. Robertson played linebacker at Ole Miss from 1978-1982.

“All the coaches are working extremely hard and are very excited about putting this team together. Both new coaches are great additions to our staff. Danny has an extensive football background dating back to his dad, ‘Cotton Robertson,’ a legendary high school coach in Mississippi. Robertson was a very successful head coach at Durant High School and, like coach (Matthew) Mock, he has an extensive junior college background.”
