Pogue inducted into Holmes CC Sports Hall of Fame

A native of Eupora and a graduate of Eupora High School, Lance Pogue is not only a football coaching legend, he is also a 1989 graduate of Holmes Community College. His induction into the Sports Hall of Fame Thursday put a stamp on his career while at Holmes.

At Holmes, Pogue was a star member of the Holmes Football Team, which made it all the way to the State Community College Championship in 1988.

After graduating from Holmes, Pogue went on to Delta State University where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.

Throughout his successful coaching career, Pogue has served as assistant coach at Mississippi Delta Community College and Madison Central High School and as head football coach for Winona High School, Eupora High School and at South Panola High School, where he also serves as Athletic Director. Pogue has also served as the 2011 East Head Football Coach for the Army All-American Game, winning over the West 13-10.

At South Panola High School, Pogue has a coaching record of 58 wins and two losses. His overall career head coaching record is 142 wins and 42 losses.

Pogue has successfully led his teams to win numerous titles including the 2007, 2009 and 2010 Mississippi 6A State Championship and the 2010 National High School Championships. Personally, Pogue has been named 2009 Clarion Ledger Coach of the Year. 2010 Clarion Ledger Sportsman of the Year, 2010 USA Today National Coach of the Year and 2010 Russell Athletic National Coach of the Year.

Pogue and wife Dixie Horne Pogue live in Batesville with their children Tyler and Meleah.
