MARKS– Betty J. Sneed Cordel, 77, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks.
She was the mother of Phil Cordel of Como.
Services were Thursday at Locke Station Baptist Church. James Owen and Rusty Miller officiated. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Cordel, born April 23, 1933, in Okalona, was a former Justice Court Judge and a trucking company owner. She was a member of Locke Station Baptist Church.
Survivors along with her son, include: her husband, John T. Cordel of Marks; two daughters, Brenda Stefanski of Katy, Texas and Sherry Moore of Marks; four sons, Roy Cordel and Terry Cordel, both of Marks, John Cordel Jr. of Horn Lake and Rodger Cordel of Fruithurst, Ala.; four brothers, Jimmy Sneed of Independence, William Sneed of Darling, Robert Sneed of Marks and Tom Sneed of Batesville; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Locke Station Baptist Churh or the Ronald McDonald House.
Belinda Strong Draper
SARDIS– Belinda Strong Draper, 48, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hosanna Family Worship Center in Pope. Pastor Jeffery McMullen will officiate. Burial will be in New Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. at Hosanna Family Worship Center. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Draper, born Sept. 16, 1962, to Bernice Strong Walton of Batesville and the late Douglas Ellis Sr., was a sewing machine operator for Serta Matress and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis.
Survivors along with her mother include: one daughter, Iesha Draper of Batesville; two sons, Mirion Draper and Antonio Draper, both of Batesville; seven sisters, Diane Strong, Barbara Walton, Marie Walton, and Angelia Walton, all of Batesville, Lisa Cauthen of Courtland, Teresa Ellis of Sardis and Patricia Diggs of Michigan; five brothers, Larry Walton, Douglas Ellis Jr., Donnell Williams, George Ellis and Micheal Thomas, all of Batesville and eight grandchildren.
William B. Holland Jr.
VACAVILLE, Calif.– William B. Holland Jr., 91, died Thursday, February 24, 2011.
A private memorial service will be held March 20 at Fairfield Funeral Home in Fairfield, Calif.
Holland, was born to the late WB and Maggie Holland, played the upright bass in the 1940s with Clinton White and the Traveling Playboys and rehearsed sometimes with Muddy Waters while living in Clarksdale.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Dawn Holland.
Survivors include: one sister, Evelyn Decker of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; two sons, William B. Holland III of Vacaville, Calif. and Stephen Holland of Lake County; three grandchildren, William B. Holland IV of Hattiesburg, John Mann Holland of Pope and Shannon Elise Sebring of South Lake Tahoe and three great-grandchildren, Holly and Bailey Holland of Batesville and Anthony Michael Sebring of Las Vegas.
Annie Byrd Johnson
BATESVILLE– Annie Byrd Johnson, 82, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at her residence.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Pastor Jeffery McMullen will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Johnson, born Dec. 15, 1928, in Batesville, to the late Howard Baker and Willie Mae Bibbs, was a homemaker and domestic worker. She was a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church where she was on the Mother Board, a choir member and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include: three daughters, Judy Johnson and Mary Baker, both of Batesville and Francine Blackburn of Pope; five sons, Willie Johnson, Ed Johnson, Otis Johnson, Ben Johnson and Melvin Johnson, all of Batesville; one sister, Lillie Mae Pinkins of Batesville; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
William David Moss
COMO– William David Moss, 53, died March 5, 2011, at North Oak Regional Medical Center.
Services were Friday at Shady Grove M.B. Church. Burial was in the church cemetery in Shady Grove. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.
Survivors include: one son, Cornell Johnson of Como; one sister, Olivette West of Memphis; five brothers, Earnest Armstrong and Fred Moss, both of Como, Joe Henry Moss of Memphis, Mack Henry Armstrong of Redbank, Tenn. and Miles Moss Jr. of Memphis and and two grandchildren.
Clara “Sis” Louise Johnson Meek
COURTLAND– Clara “Sis” Louise Johnson Meek, 70, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Services were Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Pisgah Cemetery in Courtland. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Meek, born March 27, 1940, to the late Odis Lamar Johnson and Louise Arnold Johnson, was a member of First United Methodist Church and Wesleyan Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Meek and step-mother, Freddie H. Johnson.
Survivors include: two sons, John Wade Meek of Courtland and Edward Caldwell Meek of Starkville; two sisters, Betty Johnson Seay of Batesville and Kay Johnson Haire of Courtland; three brothers, Calvin Johnson of Crenshaw, John David Johnson and Lamar Johnson, both of Courtland.

Allison Nichole Patterson
COURTLAND– Allison Nichole Patterson, 22, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at her residence.
Services were Wednesday at McIvor Baptist Church. Rev. Gary Stevens officiated. Burial was in Lambert Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Patterson, born March 22, 1988, to Patsy Patterson and the late Dennis Patterson, was a member of McIvor Baptist Church. She was a member of Wish Upon a Hero and the PACE Organization.
Survivors along with her mother include: one daughter, Cakyra Patterson; one brother, Gary Patterson, all of Courtland; sisters, Linda Cobb of Lambert, Shirley Applewhite and Loreno Jo Sneed of Winona.
Patrick Glenn Stocks
GREENPOND, S.C.– Patrick Glenn Stocks, 42, died Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Colleton Medical Center.
Services were Saturday, March 5 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Rev. J.N. Mobley officiated. Burial was in the Batesville Cemetery. Eddie Robinson Funeral Home had charge.
Stocks, born May 6, 1968, in Sardis, to Erma Christine Shegog Stocks of Batesville and the late Turner Stocks Sr. was a carpenter and graduated from South Panola High School.
Survivors along with his mother include: one son, Elikaa Stocks of South Carolina; three daughters, Kayla Stocks, Cerria Stocks and La’Tisha Stocks, all of South Carolina; eight brothers, Amos Hullet, Ellis Stocks, Micheal Stocks and Thomas Stocks, all of Batesville, Charles A. Stewart of St. Louis, Turner Stocks Jr. of Detroit, Barry Stocks of Grenada and Tyrone Stocks of Memphis; eight sisters, Samella Lawson, Juanita Stocks, both of Batesville, Elaine Neal of Wisconsin, Linda Stocks of Milwaukee, Sandra Johnson, Jennifer McCory, both of Memphis, Fannie Stocks of Atlanta and Kimberly Blackwell of Katy, Texas.
Etta Vee Turner
BATESVILLE– Etta Vee Turner, 88, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Turner, born Aug. 12, 1922, in Sardis, to the late Green Gates and Frankie Mae Stovall, was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church where she was an usher.
Survivors include: three daughters, Patricia Madison of Batesville, Sandra E. Royal of Florissant, Mo. and Frankie Yarbor of Victorville, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
