Richard Wayne Hollingsworth

BATESVILLE– Richard Wayne Hollingsworth, 38, died March 1 in Batesville. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. At Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at noon prior to the service. Interment will be in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville.

Born in Marks on May 6, 1972, he was the son of Larry William Jenkins and Ruth Ann Hollingsworth Jenkins. He served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving Mr. Hollingsworth are his daughters, Alexandria Briana Hollingsworth and Caitlin Elizabeth Hollingsworth, both of Courtland, and Abigail Elana Hollingsworth and Maria Angelique Hubbard, both of Choudrant, La.; Two sons, Logan Mackaid Hollingsworth of Courtland and Micah Seth Smith of Choudrant; his parents, Larry and Ruth Ann Jenkins of Batesville; two brothers, Chrisopher William Jenkins of Tunica and Larry Lee Jenkins of Batesville.

Norma Williams Shinabarger Lee

MELBOURNE, Fla– Norma Williams Shinabarger Lee, formerly of Batesville, died February 25. She was 97.

Graveside services will be at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville on Sunday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Jay Anderson will officiate. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Born in Panola County on April 23, 1913, she was the daughter of Ella and Lucious Williams. She graduated from Batesville High School and took her first job at Sears Roebuck Co. in Memphis.

She met and married Charles Shinabarger, a young sergeant with the U.S. Army stationed near Batesville. They were married in Colorado Springs. After the war they moved to Logansport, Ind., where they opened North Drugs, with Charles as the pharmacist and Norma managing the store.

She was active in Wheatland Ave. United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Altrusa, Ladies Shrine and other community organizations.

Norma became a licensed pilot to join her husband in his love of flying. Her first solo cross-country flight was back to her childhood home.

In retirement Norma and Charles returned to make their home in Batesville. Shortly thereafter Charles died.

Norma later married Jack Lee whom she had met at First Baptist Church in Batesville.

After Jack’s death in 1999 she moved to Florida to be near nieces Norma Mebus of Melbourne and Louise Yancey of Zellwood.  She is also survived by a nephew, Gene Shinabarger of Anderson, Ind.

The family asks that memorials be made to Batesville First Baptist Church or to Calvary Baptist Church Melbourne, Fla., where she attended after leaving Batesville.

Matt Pittman

COMO– Matt Pittman of Como died February 28 at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia. He was 58.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. At New Ford M.B. Church in Senatobia. Burial will be in Hunter’s Chapel Cemetery in Como. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Pittman was a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene F. Pittman of Como; his daughter, Sopheria Pittman of Senatobia; five sons, Marvin Pittman of Southaven, Johnny Pittman of Memphis, and Quincey Pittman, Matt Pittman III and Starkey Wright, all of Senatobia; three sisters, Lucy Mae White of Senatobia and Jearlene Boyce and Gladys Pittman, both of Como; two  brothers, Robert Earl Pittman and James C. Pittman, both of Como; eight grandchildren.

Mary Jane Rogers

 HORN LAKE– Mary Jane Howell Rogers, 84, died February 28 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.  She was the wife of Russell Rogers.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Enid at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with Calvin Miller officiating. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rogers was born May 27, 1926 in Gary, Ind., to the late Roy Benton Howell and Kay Flack Howell Hines.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Horn Lake and also belonged to the Southaven Senior Citizens Club.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Terry Leslie of Enid; sons Richard Earl Rogers of Olive Branch and Russell Edward Rogers of Memphis; sister Kathleen Lippoard of Brownsburg, Ind., four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Shirlean Flynn Baker Terry

BATESVILLE– Shirlean B. Terry, 75, widow of Jesse W. Terry, died February 28 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Funeral services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Middleton officiating. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery.

Terry was born September 7, 1935 to the late Casper and Mary Frances Flynn Baker. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a retired police officer with the Batesville Police Department, having served for 22 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Terry Sibley of Batesville; three sons, Barry Terry of Batesville, Tony Terry of Hernando and Don Terry of Sardis; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Daniel Thomas

COURTLAND– Daniel Thomas, 91, died at his residence on March 2. Born August 4, 1919, he was a carpenter and a veteran of World War II. Mr. Thomas belonged to Liberty Hill M.B. Church.

Funeral services will be held March 7 at 1 p.m. at Salem M.B. Church in Courtland, with the Rev. Larry Key officiating.

Eddie Robinson Funeral Home has charge.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Rosie Dell Thomas of Courtland; 11 daughters Bettye Jean Sanford, Gloria Chapman, Rose Carr, Thelma Chapman, Linda Sanford, Jeanette Taylor, Dorothy Marie Thomas, Martha Avant, Mary Jones, Dorothy Virginia Love and Shirley Hines; seven sons, Reedy Sanford, Robert Louis Thomas, Eddie Thomas, Ray Charles Thomas, Ezekiel Thomas, Grady Thomas and Willie Lee Thomas; two sisters, Lora Green and Rosie Duke; one brother, Excel Thomas.

Harvey Williams

COMO– Harvey Williams, 51, died February 28 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

He was a factory worker.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at Hunter’s Chapel M.B. Church, with Felix Cauthen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Williams is survived by his son Orlando Williams of Milwaukee; his mother, Lillie B. Towns of Como; three sisters, Estellar Amos and Vivian Towns, both of Como and Stacye Haynes of Sardis; five brothers, Charles E. Towns of Memphis, Carl E. Towns of Senatobia, Renzell Oliver of Sardis, and Billy R. Bonner and Gary D. Towns of Como.
