During the Valentine’s Day weekend, Friday, Feb. 12 through Monday, Feb. 14, someone entered the fenced area around Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association (TVEPA) on Power Drive in Batesville and stole eight reels of copper wire.
If you know anything about it, you might get cash.
The Batesville Police Department needs information about the theft.
The copper wire theft is featured as the Crime Stoppers “Crime of the Week,” BPD Detective Sergeant and Crime Stoppers coordinator George Williford said.
Although the police department has not determined the value of the loss, Williford said that it was the largest value theft in the city during February.
Officers think that somebody walking or driving along Highway 6 or on Power Drive may have noticed a pickup near the fence. Or somebody may know somebody who was on their way to a scrap yard to sell rolls of copper wire. Or somebody may know somebody who was surprised on Valentine’s Day with an unusual gift — copper wire neatly coiled around spools.
Anyone who knows anything that investigators might find useful — even if it seems trivial — is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-2169.
People who call Crime Stoppers do not have to give their name. The caller is given an identification number. If the information leads to an arrest, the person providing the information will receive a cash reward through the assigned identification number.
Crime Stoppers of North Central Mississippi is affiliated with the international Crime Stoppers organization.
It offers cash rewards for tips that lead to arrests for crime.
