SP Lady Tigers  trample Lewisburg

The South Panola Lady Tigers (1-1) got their first win of the season Tuesday night with a 10-4 non-district win over Lewisburg.

The temperature was a balmy 68 degrees when the game started but dropped drastically to the 40s when the sun went down.

The Lady Tigers had nine hits, four errors, left six on base, had eight RBIs (runs batted in) and nine earned runs.

Lewisburg had nine hits, three errors, left eight on base, had four RBIs and three earned runs.

Tory Helton started on the mound for the Lady Tigers pitching 70 pitches in four innings and striking out five. The Lady Tigers were up 7-4 when Nicole Fullilove relieved Helton on the mound.

The Lady Tigers scored five runs in the top of the first and one in the second. The Lady Tigers led 6-4 going into the fifth.

They added one run for the 7-4 lead going into the sixth. The Lady Tigers rallied sending three runners across home plate to win the game.

Amanda Ivy was two for four with two doubles, one RBI and scored two runs. Christa Brown was two for four with one RBI and two runs.

Caroline Dickins was one for two scoring two runs. Helton was two for three with a double and three RBIs.

Diamond Browning was two for four with one double. Meri Morgan Fortune had one run. Lauren Calvert had one RBI and one run. Lindsey Calvert went one for three with two RBIs. Marla Rudd scored two runs.

Head coach Ashleigh Hicks said, “We’re hitting the ball very well. Our defense has got to step it up a notch. This team has so much to look forward to this season.”

The Lady Tigers will play in a tournament at Clinton Saturday. They play Terry High School at 11:45 a.m., Daphne Alabama at 3:15 p.m. and Oak Grove 5 p.m.

 Jr. Varsity

The Jr. Varisty Lady Tigers (2-0) defeated Lewisburg 13-2.

They scored five runs in the top of the first with runs scored by Diamond Browning, Taylor Browning, Hailey Reed, Katie Hayes, and Crystal Contreras. Diamond Browning hit a single and Contreras slammed a triple. Lewisburg answered scoring two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Diamond Browning got the win for the Lady Tigers, pitching three innings. Dickins relieved her to get the save.

In the top of the second, the Lady Tigers sent four across home plate giving them a 9-2 lead. Madison Taylor drew a walk to begin the action. Taylor Browning hit a single along with Reed and Morgan Aldison. Katie Hayes picked up an RBI. Contreras hit another triple.

In the top of the third, hitting singles and scoring runs were Makenzie Crutcher, Bethany Cotton, Madison Taylor, Taylor Browning and Reed.

Hicks said, “Our junior varsity team is hitting the ball very well. They are 2-0 and have a bright future for South Panola softball.”
