Justice court judge draws an opponent

By Rupert Howell

Although several have picked up qualifying papers to run for public office, no new candidates have returned them to the Circuit Clerks’s office with the exception of Jason Chrestman who is running for the office of justice court judge, District 2.

Chrestman will face incumbent Judge Willie T. “Bill” Joiner in that race. The district encompasses Panola’s Second Court District whose constituency roughly includes those south of the Tallahatchie River.

The qualifying deadline is March 1.

The Panolian previously reported — incorrectly — that District 2  Supervisor candidate William Pride has run in the past as a Republican. That election was non-partisan.

Pride is running as a Democrat in the August Primary.

The Panolian regrets the error.
