On Saturday, Feb. 12, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Sardis Lake is hosting its annual Fish Habitat Day and asking for volunteer assistance to create new fish habitat with stake beds and donated Christmas trees. Many fishermen know that one of the keys to a good fishing spot is good habitat.

As reservoirs age, flooded timber and brush rots away leaving minnows and fish fry with less protective cover. Replacing this cover is important to maintain healthy fish populations. This event also gives fishermen an opportunity to become familiar with the locations of these structures around the lake.  

Volunteers are asked to report to Teckville Landing or the new Sardis Lake Field Office location at the north end of Sardis Dam for registration from 7-7:30 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to wear outdoor work clothing including gloves. ATV use is allowed, but ATV riders are reminded to wear helmets.

Volunteers will be treated to a stew lunch at the Corps of Engineers shop or Holiday Lodge at Teckville Landing.
