Calvin Blakely

SARDIS–Calvin Blakely, 54, died  Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services were Sunday at Henderson Funeral Home. Rev. Johnny McDonald officiated. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include: his mother, Edna Blakely; three sisters, Julie Blakely, Regina Blakely and Esther Blakely, all of Sardis; three brothers, Jack Blakely, Lawrence Blakely and Charles Blakely, all of Sardis.

Darrell Wayne Chambers

SARDIS–Darrell Wayne Chambers, 35, died Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Antioch M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Reginald Reed will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Chambers, born July 5, 1975, in Jackson, to Howard Cosby of Memphis and Shirley Outland of Batesville, was a member of Antioch M.B. Church.

Survivors along with his parents include: one daughter, Katherine Ann Martin of Oxford; his fiance, Tammy Tramell of Sardis; his grandfather, Ira Chambers of Charleston and two brothers, Terrell Chambers of Sardis and Percy Henry Chambers of Batesville.

Jane Cook

SOUTHAVEN–Jane Cook, 80, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.

Cook, born Oct. 2, 1930, to John Lloyd Cleland and Leona Drake Cleland, was a member of Memphis Herb Society, Friends of the Library and was a healthcare administrator for Hattiesburg Convalescent Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Edward Cook Sr.

Survivors include: four sons, S. Edward Cook Jr. of Houston, Texas, David W. Cook of Memphis, John M. Cook of Southaven and William S. Cook of Olive Branch; one sister, Ruth C. Jackson of Sardis; one brother, Dr. William O. Cleland; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James Carothers Herron

BATESVILLE–James Carothers Herron, 101, died Monday, December 13, 2010.

Services were Thursday at First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Herron was a retired elementary school teacher and a member of Truth Seekers Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Woman’s Club of Batesville, Pan-Gens, Delta Kappa Gamma and Friends of the Library.

Survivors include: one daughter, Nancy Herron Thomson of Batesville; one son, William Boothe Herron of Southaven; one brother, Oliver Smylie Carothers of Batesville; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Willie Mae Fitzgerald Lewers

COMO–Willie Mae Fitzgerald Lewers, 96, died Monday, December 13, 2010, at Tri-Lakes Hospital

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in Mt. Level M.B. Church Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

She was a member of Mt. Level M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lewers and one son, John I. Cleveland.

Survivors include: two daughters, Corine Mangrum and Dorothy Jones, both of Como; three sons, John L. Lewers of Como, Robert Lewers of Columbus, Ga. and Jessie James Lewers of Como; one brother, Samuel Booze of Memphis; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Brenda Lee Pittman

SENATOBIA–Brenda Lee Pittman, 37, died Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Senatobia Convalescent Home. She was the sister of Jessie Jones of Como and brother Kenny Reed of Batesville.

Services were Saturday at West Looxahoma Church of Christ. Burial was in Hunter Chapel. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors along with her sister include: her husband, Eddie Pittman; one daughter, Destiny D. Reynolds of Senatobia; one son, Bobby A. Reynold of Senatobia; three sisters, Carol Roberts of Senatobia, Rosie Blocton of Boxsprings, Ga. and Inez Mitchell of Pheonix City, Ala.; two brothers, Pretiss Tate and Willie Reed, both of Senatobia.

William “Bill” P. West Sr.

BATESVILLE–William “Bill” P. West Sr., 59, formerly of Germantown, Tenn., died Friday, December 10, 2010.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home. Kevin Crofford of Sardis Lake Baptist Church officiated. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

West, born Dec. 4, 1951, in Memphis, to William J. and Bernice J. West, attended Whitehaven High School in Memphis and Memphis State University majoring in history and civil engineering. While attending Memphis State, he obtained part-time employment with Federal Express Corporation and continued as a dedicated employee for 28 years.

He was a member of Whitehaven Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife of 37 years, Debbie West of Batesville; one son, William P. West Jr. of Batesville; his father, William J. West of Memphis; one sister, Brenda W. Thornton of Germantown.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to UT Cancer Institute in Germantown.
