Woods named coach of year, 10 players named All-State

JACKSON – Led by the 2010 MACJC North Coach of the Year Ricky Woods, the Northwest Rangers boasted a total of 10 players on the MACJC All-State and NJCAA All-Region XXIII Football Teams released today by the league office.

Northwest capped a stellar season with a 9-1 overall record, while capturing a north division championship and running unscathed in the regular season for the first time in a decade. In the final NJCAA Top 20 Poll of the regular season, the Rangers held steady with a No. 9 ranking.

First team all-state selections on offense went to WR Myles White, OL Courtney Easterwood, OL Jonathan Hardin of Batesville, TE Jamal Mosley and K/P Kevin Buford. First team defense went to DL Jamontay Pilson, LB Sam Small and DB Brandon Lawrence.

Small and Pilson also took top honors in the north by being named the MVP’s of their respective positions.

Second team all-state honors went to QB Brent Osborn and DB Michael McKinney of Batesville.

All-Region accolades were grabbed by five Rangers, tied for the most in the region with Gulf Coast, as White and Buford were named to the all-region team on offense and Pilson, Small and Lawrence represented the defense.
