Constance “Connie” Blanche Earl

BATESVILLE–Constance “Connie” Blanche Earl, 77, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at her residence on Hwy. 35 South.

Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Douglas Sullivant-Gonzalez will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Earl, born Sept. 15, 1933, in Freeport, Texas, to the late Richard Hunt and Lula Mae Dunn Earl, graduated from Port Sulphur High School in Port Sulphur, La. in 1951 then went  to the University of Mississippi where she graduated in 1956. She retired from teaching and then was in the real estate business, where she was very successful. She was a member of Independence Presbyterian Church. She had fish, emu, horses, cattle and birds. She was known as the “bird lady” She was the owner of many champion dogs.

Survivors include: one sister, Geraldine Lou Brian of Allentown, Pa.

Debra Gail Hamblin

BATESVILLE–Debra  “Debbie” Gail Potts Hamblin, 56, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at her residence.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Raymond Aven will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Hamblin, born July 3, 1954, in Marks, to the late W.L. and Leona Wood Potts. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include: her husband, Larry Hamblin of Batesville; one daughter, Ann Lamm of Batesville; one sister, Kathy Potts Sykes of Batesville; two brothers, Glen Potts of Horn Lake and Maxey Potts of Oxford and two grandchildren.

James “Jimmy” Edward Penland

BATESVILLE–James “Jimmy” Edward Penland, 48, died Thursday, September 30, 2010 at his residence.

Services were Wednesday, October 6 at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

Penland, born Dec. 14, 1961, in Asheville, N.C., was a foreman for H&S Construction and Dyson Construction Company in Summerville, Tenn.

Survivors include: his wife, Lisa Mitchell Penland of Batesville; three sons, Charles Blake Penland and James Cory Penland of Olive Branch and Walker Trent Penland of Batesville; his mother, Carolyn Doris  “Gainey” Biddix of Darlington, S.C.; his step-father, Henry Ray Baker of Sumter, S.C.;  three brothers, Charles Penland of Wedgefield, S.C., Donald R. Baker of Manassas, Va. and Ronald Baker of Abbeville.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Sallie Holt Mathis Stone

BATESVILLE–Sallie Holt Mathis Stone, 86, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lambert Memorial Cemetery. Family visitation will be held at their home in Batesville from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Stone, born Feb. 16, 1924, attended Judson College in Marion, Ala. and the University of Mississippi and graduated from the University of Alabama. She was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity and First Baptist Church of Lambert.

She was involved in many civic affairs, Garden Club and Delta Council. She was a member of the Cotton Wives Modeling Squad and past president of the Delta Council Women’s Committee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoke Stone.

Survivors include: one daughter, Penelope Stone Respess of Batesville; one son, Hoke Billingsley Stone of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or French Camp Academy.
