October weekends custom-made for fairs, festivals

Coming off a great festival weekend, heading into another: terrific car show, quilt show, wrasslin’, pancake breakfast.

This weekend it’s Tri-Lakes  Medical Center’s Health Fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Available will be free health screenings that you’d normally have to pay for and educational exhibits. All of this will be conducted in a setting and atmosphere that’s fun and festive.

It promises to be a pretty weekend for Sardis Lake’s Clean Up. If you hate to see people mess up nature, here’s a chance to get back and give back. Ranger Michael Jones will give you details, 563-4531.

Then there’s the Sadie L. Harrison Music Scholarship Banquet at the Patton Lane Community Center at 6 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Rev. Zannie Leland is guest speaker. I can’t write that line without remembering the first time I ever saw Leland. He was a South Panola High School AFROTC cadet who served as toastmaster for the unit’s annual Dining Out. What a foreshadowing that was!

Former employees of Moog Automotive are gathering for a reunion at 5 p.m. Saturday at Otis Boothe’s place. 663-832-0562. How quickly the present becomes the past and we want to share those memories.

Best to you for what is shaping up to be another festive, beautiful October weekend.
