Rasslin’, quiltin’ and roddin’ this weekend

By Rita Howell

With sunshine and mild temperatures forecast for the weekend, participants in the fall outdoor events in Batesville Saturday aren’t likely to get wet.

The Mississippi Delta Street Rodders have worked for months to plan the Showoff on the Square car show. Classic cars, trucks and motorcycles are set to be displayed all around the Batesville Square all day Saturday. Registration for car owners is 8 a.m. until noon, with judging at 1 p.m.

More than 70 trophies are expected to be handed out at 3 p.m.

The family-friendly event will include entertainment, music, games and prizes. Everyone is invited to view the shiny, street-worthy entries.

For information about the show, call 561-5163 or 934-4134.

Wrestling fans can enjoy CWA Championship Wrestling Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. at Pride Hyundai, Highway 6 West. Admission is free.

And for those who have an appreciation for practical art, the Teasdale Quilters will host their three-day Quilt Show in Batesville.

Members of the long-time quilting club have arranged more than 500 quilts, some vintage, some recently made, in an exhibit in the store space recently occupied by Mike’s Bargains, next to Phil Webb Office Supply on Highway 6.

Admission is $3. Times are: Friday, 9-6; Saturday, 9-5 and Sunday, 1-5.

Proceeds will help pay for paving the parking lot at the Teasdale Community Building.

To get things started Saturday morning, the Batesville Exchange Club will sponsor its annual pancake breakfast in the Batesville Intermediate School cafeteria.

Proceeds go to Exchange Club programs to prevent child abuse.
