Ricky Harpole: Balladier, raconteur extraordinaire

Harpole goes tit-for-tat with online commentors

Note: The following comments were submitted on Panolian.com following Mr. Harpole’s “Open letter to the Governor,” published in the July 6 edition of the Panolian. Mr. Harpole has chosen to both rebutt and applaud the following comments in his column below. We should also note that this could get out of hand.

This guy is a columnist for The Panolian? He has the grammar of a 5th grader. I had a difficult time reading it for of lack of commas and such.

First off, i’m not a Harpole fan and not much into reading but in my Mississippi openion Mr. Huh?!,, get a life. It’s a way of life that you likely have no knowledge of and likely haven’t even read about. Most of us are not smarter then a 5th grader but the ones who read the article get it, you’d be wise to read it again,, now Huh?!,,,,,, a few extra comma’s there for you to use as you deem necessary,,,,and we wonder whats goingon with this country,,,,jc

Response from Ricky Harpole

I feel it to be in my best interest to address and rebutt, as well as to applaud, the online comments published July 9 regarding my “Open letter to the Governor,” published July 6.

1. Huh?!

You can’t even spell your name right. Down here we spell “hunh” with an N, as demonstrated.

Sir, I have a granddaughter in the fourth grade who understood my remarks and observations perfectly. This may reflect the quality (or lack thereof) of whatever institution of education issued you an education of the sort you got. You, dumas, if I were you I would sue ‘em for negligence!

2. jerryc …

Who admitted that he was not a “Harpole fan.” My hat is off to you sir, for your candid honesty. I really do appreciate all that extra ammunition that you donated to the cause in the form of commas. It seems these damn Yankees can’t get enough of them.

Thank you sir for rallying to the defense of a southern political observer.

3. 2nd Huh?!

Huh, duh!!! You are basically clueless anyway, ‘cause you can’t tell a hoax from a real letter, and can’t spell ‘holt correctly. I am a Southern Redneck and proud of it and, as you may have noticed by now, I am also shameless.

4. Mary

I can tell that you are a woman of the old South, right out of a Faulkner novel. It is a proven fact that Southern women have saved more Southern men than modern medicine. If I had on a hat I would tip it to you and if you will check page 22 of the Summer 2010 Batesville Magazine, I am paying you and all other Southern ladies homage. Y’all ladies keep up the good work. Thank you.

5. Ron

Thanks for advising a Yankee to lighten up a little bit. I appreciate the way you talk, son, and only wish I’d have had your “edumacation.”

6. Yoconariverrat

It is exceedingly obvious that you can smell a damn Yankee a mile away, yep, and are qualified as a linguist as well. In another century you’d have qualified for a state department job.

7. DCinMissippi

You seem to have covered all the bases. You basically told that scalawag that it was his ????????? And he could stick it anywhere on the keyboard or anywhere else, as long as it ain’t in somebody else’s face. “Redneck-onics” as a term oughta be patented in your name.

8. Ron Yancey

As for Ron Yancey, I am proud and humbled to be recognzied by you and your — our — band of brothers, who sacrifice for our nation. It could not stand without the likes of all you boys and girls. I hope y’all keep your heads down and thanks for standing up for those of us who might sometimes might appear to be taking you for granted. May God bless and keep you all.

Ricky Harpole

And a P.S from “Miss Rita” of the Kudzu revenge:

Please allow me to declare strongly that “Mr. Harpo” only speaks his heart and mind. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.
