Eyan Kyle Canady

BATESVILLE––Eyan Kyle Canady, 4 months old, died Saturday, July 10, 2010.

Services were Wednesday at Forest Hill South. Burial was in Forest Hill South Cemetery.

Survivors include: his mother, Sarah Nicole Canady; one sister, Emily Canady; grandparents, James and Nancy Bradford and his great-grandmother, Charlotte Taylor.

Carrie Jane Corbin

LAMBERT––Carrie “Jane” Corbin, 74, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at her son’s home in Madison.

Services were held Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services at Lambert Cemetery. Rev. William Womble officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Corbin, born in Kennett, Mo. on November 11, 1935, was a member of First Baptist Church of Lambert.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Bledsoe, her mother Flossie Bledsoe.

Survivors include her daughters, Charlene Mitchell and Patricia Everett, both of Lambert; two sons, Harold Corbin of Madison and Billy Corbin of Greenville; two brothers, William Bledsoe of Quincy, Illinois and Charlie Bledsoe of Paragould, Ark. and two grandchildren.

     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Carrie Jane to the Madison Ark., P.O. Box 2936, Madison, MS 39130 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mississippi Chapter, 1640 Lelia Drive, Suite 130, Jackson, MS 39216.

 Ruby N. Cosby

GREENVILLE––Ruby N. Cosby, 79, formerly of Enid, died Friday, July 7, 2010, at Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Enid with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. William Johnson will officiate.  Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Cosby, born March 22, 1931, in Enid to William “Shine” Brooks and Glennie Hull Brooks, was a homemaker and member of Jake Chapel M.B. Church in Greenville.

    Survivors include one daughter, Olivia Stigler of Greenville; two sons, Rich Cosby of Westernville, Ohio and Robert Cosby of Columbus, Ohio; a grandson she raised, Aleiandro Cosby, Sr., of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Elizabeth Wirt of Madison, Ark., Velma Oliver, Vera Morman, Glenora Payne and Lena Payne, all of Memphis; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Teresa Denise Flowers

COURTLAND––Teresa Denise Flowers, 41, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Methodist University Hospital.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church. Dr. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 1 p.m. – 2 pm. at Macedonia M.B. Church.

Flowers, born Jan. 3, 1969, to John Flowers and Mary Jane Armstead Flowers, was a homemaker and a member of Antioch M.B. Church in Courtland.

Survivors include: her husband, Michael L. Jones of Courtland; three sisters, Christina Flowers Pounders, Trini Flowers and Continia Bobo, all of Batesville and two brothers, John F. Flowers  of Batesville and Micheal Flowers, of Senatobia.

Paul Dean Grant Sr.

SARDIS––Paul Dean Grant Sr., 94, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospial-North Mississippi.

Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Green M.B. Church. Rev. W.O. McKinney will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home has charge.

Grant was a retired farmer and a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church in Sardis.

Survivors include: nine daughters, Johnnie Lyons of Como, Cora Walker, Judy Stuckey, Lisa Salter, Patricia Jones and Lavon Logan, all of Memphis, Doris Farmer, Edna Chambers and Sue Morris all of Sardis; three sons, Aaron Grant, Joe L. Grant and Marvin Grant, all of Memphis; two sisters, Geneva Thompson of Sardis and Eva Mae Brooks of Como; 46 grandchildren; 91 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Sgt. David A. Holmes Jr.

TENNILLE, GA–Funeral services were held July 9 for Sgt. David Alexander Holmes Jr., 34, who died June 26 while serving with the Georgia Army National Guard in Afghanistan. He was the son of Betty and David Holmes of Batesville.

Services were held at New Birth Christian Ministries in Tennille, with Chaplain Jimmy L. Bellamy Jr. and Pastor Patrick Wilson Sr. officiating. Burial was in the Georgia Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville. M.C. Smith Funeral Home had charge.

A 1995 graduate of South Panola High School, Holmes continued his education at the Georgia Military College and Ashford University, studying criminal justice.

After high school he had joined the Marine Corps, then the Navy.

At the time of his death he was serving with the 810th Engineer Company  of Swainsboro, Ga. He had been promoted to sergeant on June 16.

Holmes had been employed at Scott State Prison, Washington State Prison and the Jefferson County Correctional Institution.

In his spare time he enjoyed painting, working in his yard, and following the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, LaTonya Holmes of Tennille; four children, Daveion Holmes, Tejuan Thomas, ShuRissa D. Holmes and ShuQuita Drake; a brother, Jessie Holmes of Batesville; two sisters, Mrs. Stephanie Wicks of Batesville and Ms. Tina Holmes of Memphis.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday, July 18 at the Batesville Junior High School Auditorium at 2 p.m. The public is invited.

Carol Henderson

BATESVILLE––Carol Henderson, 60, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Henderson, born April 12, 1950, in San Diego, Calif., to the late William Douglas and Ruby Dix Henderson, was an operating room technician at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandi J. Wallace of Leesburg, Va.

Memorials in Carol’s memory may be made to the Panola County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1756, Batesville, 38606.

Cedric L. Moore

BATESVILLE–– Cedric L. Moore, 33, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

    Services were Thursday, at Macedonia M.B. Church with interment in the church cemetery.  Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

    Moore, born August 20, 1976, in Sardis to Terry Kimmons and Geraldine Moore, was a hair stylist and member of Macedonia M.B. Church.

    Survivors include his mother, Geraldine Moore of Batesville; his father, Terry Kimmons of Batesville; his grandmothers, Ethel Moore of Batesville and Carlean Kimmons of Sardis; one sister, Tamiko Thomas of Batesville and one brother, LaMarko Moore of Batesville.

Brandon O’Bryan Shorty

SENATOBIA––Brandon O’Bryan Shorty, 23, died Sunday, July 4, 2010, in Sardis.

Services were Saturday at Gilmore Street Church of Christ. Burial was in New Salem Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Shorty was an entertainer.

Survivors include: one daughter, Jazmyne Shorty of Senatobia; three sons, Brandon Shorty, Justice Shorty and Jakylen Forrest, all of Senatobia; his parents, Kim Shorty of Senatobia, Avery Brooks of Memphis and Ricky Stanford of Batesville; three sisters, Jessica Brooks, Katima Shorty and Teirra Jackson, all of Senatobia; two brothers, Justin Brooks and Darrius Brooks, both of Senatobia and his grandparents, Azaline Stanford of Batesville, Willie Mae Brooks of Senatobia and Margie Shorty Walker of Coldwater.

 Coy Linzy Woods

GARLAND, Texas––Coy Linzy Woods, 77, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, in Garland, Texas. He was the brother of Annie Ruth Dunn of Batesville.

Graveside services were Thursday, July 8, at Dickins Funeral Home.

Woods, born May 29, 1933, to the late Authur J. Woods and Myrtle Real Woods,  in McCool, was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a truck driver and worked in the oil fields in Texas.
Survivors along with his sister include: two daughters, Terrie Sanford of Hunnington Beach, Cali. and one son, Gene Woods of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Pearl Julian of Blanning, Calif. and Nora Irving of Texas; seven brothers, Jerod Mehan of Ft. Stocking, Texas, Roy Woods of Weslaco, Texas, Jimmy Woods of Whitesboro, Texas, Glad Woods and George Woods, both of Odessa, Texas, Robert Woods of Rochester, New York and Charles Woods of Minerals Wells, Texas.
