Dacus Letter

Concerning the articles past and present written by reporter Jason Mattox, he is/has been very incorrect. Allow me to address those issues.
First of all we did not invite him to the first investigation back in October 2006. We didn’t even know who he was then. He was informed of the investigation by former Sardis police chief, Mike Davis. Therefore, we assume he invited him. It was much to our surprise, the morning of the investigation, to see the “press” going along for a ride. They also contaminated quite a bit of our evidence. Since he brought a “buddy” with him, another “Jason,” both of them talked quite a bit amongst themselves.
Second, you will notice that in that article (dated 10/10/2006) he misspelled our names (Oacus) and misrepresented our team. He also stated in the very first paragraph that we led the investigation, which we did not. Former chief Mike Davis and Faye Traywick, a former EMT who had stayed in the hospital, and Kanea Sonic also an EMT, led us through the hospital. We had NEVER been in there before. They showed us all the alleged “hot spots” and along tagged your reporter and his buddy.
Thirdly, he misquoted Steve in saying that he had sold janitorial supplies down there. He has NEVER sold janitorial supplies. Also, it is clear that he stated in the article, by his own words that Faye Traywick, a former employee, had told us the stories. It was not us who invented the stories of George.
He printed in the article that an old jar was found in the infirmary with the word “HELP” written on it. We debunked that by taking the jar off the wall and turning it around. Someone had written “help” backwards on the back of the jar to look like it was written on the inside. He never mentioned in his article that we debunked it.
He misquoted us on the evidence we did find, including the room 333, the mirror with the prints on it and our results. We never know the results until after we have reviewed all evidence, which takes several days to review. He never contacted us concerning any results we found.
We NEVER were asked for an interview from Jason Mattox and therefore he is not using our words.
Concerning the article printed one week later (dated 10/17/2006):
Those 14 that were nabbed at the hospital: We were not responsible for their reading about the hospital investigation in your paper. We NEVER asked for the press to be there in the first place. Yet it is stated in the article as a quote by Mike Davis that he expected this after our investigation. The investigation alone did not cause the 14 to enter the hospital. If the article had not been printed, they would not have read it and entered.
In fact, we were thanked by chief Davis since their arrest brought several thousands of dollars of revenue to Sardis due to their fines paid. At least with the former chief he tried to keep the building locked down. After he left office, the building was continually left unlocked with hypodermic needles and old drugs left in the building as well as police records and hospital records. The last chief, John Still, left all doors unlocked and let several other paranormal teams go in and out like it had a revolving door on it.
Since then, the building has continually been vandalized and breached with numerous possible illegal activities occurring.
In Mr. Mattox’s last article, (dated 06/22/2010) regarding A&E’s team requesting to film their investigating the hospital, he stated that we had “no concrete evidence of George’s presence.” That is a lie because we investigated that building many times, with permission by both former police chiefs. Mr. Mattox does not know what evidence we do have.
And first and foremost he does not need to be saying things in your paper to damage our credibility in what we consider slanderous statements. We do cover the Mid South area and negative press could and may already have damaged our reputation. Mr. Mattox has never asked to see or review any evidence we obtained.
Therefore, we request a rebuttal concerning his comments made about our team.
We are also attaching a couple pieces of evidence for your review. We are a reputable team and have done many residential cases as well as other facilities in the Mid South area. We have always maintained ourselves in a courteous and professional manner. We hope that you hold your reporters to these same standards.
Respectfully,
Steve and Mary Dacus
