An early morning shooting Thursday resulted in non-life threatening injuries to a pair of high school students.

Investigator Mark Whitten of the Panola County Sheriff’s Office said the incident took place at approximately 2-2:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the old Crash Landing building on Highway 315 just outside the city limits of Sardis.

Marcus Jamison, 17, has been arrested and charged as an adult with two counts of aggravated assault. No bond has been set.

The investigator said the suspect was arrested by 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning. The weapon, a small caliber handgun, was recovered.

If convicted, each count of aggravated assault carries up to 20 years in prison.

“Apparently this altercation was between students from Sardis and Como,” Whitten said. “I hate to use the term turf war, but there is no other way to say it.”

Whitten said a graduation party was held at the location that began the night before.

“We had a female that was shot in the leg twice and a male victim shot in the leg once,” he said. “They have been treated and the injuries were non-life threatening.”
