Herschel Marion Cranford

BATESVILLE– Herschel Marion Cranford, Jr, 62, an agent for Interstate Bail Bonds, died Thursday, May 6, 2010.

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be today, at 2 p.m.. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Pastor Angela Lind officiating. Visitation will be today from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home.

Born in North Little Rock, AR, he was the widower of Renate Cranford. Mr. Cranford served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed farming and working in his garden. He was preceded in death by his father, Herschel M. Cranford, Sr.

Survivors include his mother, Mattie Mae Cranford of Columbia, MS; his son Herschel M. Cranford III of Sardis, MS; a step-son, Henry Boggs of Batesville,; three sisters, Catherine Stroud of Batesville,  Amy Ales of Booneville, and Debbie Connell of Pope,; four brothers, Tommy Cranford of Batesville,, Richard Cranford of Summerall, David Cranford of Water Valley, and Charles Cranford of Mountainburg, Ark.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In honor of Mr. Cranford’s service to his country the flag of the U.S. Army is being flown at Waller Funeral Home during the time of services.

Edgar Leo Darby

BATESVILLE–  Edgar Leo Darby, age 89, passed away Tuesday morning, May 11, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Funeral Services were, May 13 at Wells Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Baker officiating. Interment was in Forrest Memorial Park. Mr. Darby was born June 24, 1920 in Panola County to the late Edgar and Addie Darby. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in WWII and then on second enlistment was in the United States Army. He was an entrepreneur, salesman and writer.

He is survived by three daughters, Judy Darby Galloway of Memphis; Janet Darby Stewart of Jonesboro, Ark.; Rita Darby McArthur of Sardis; two sons, Dennis K. Darby of Batesville; and Eddie K. Darby of Monee, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Byron Brown, Catlin McArthur, Perrin Robertson, Bubba Bryan, John Lantern, Dino Stutts, Brandon Darby and Nathan Sorenson.

Patricia Ann Hooper

SARDIS—Patricia Ann  Kennemore Moss Hooper, 56, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15 at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel.

Hooper was born April 17, 1954, in Portsmith, Va., to Kay Kennemore and the late Henry Howard Kennemore Sr.

Survivors include: three daughters, Julie Armistead of Horn Lake, Kristi Sexton of Cabot, Ark. and Leslie Siebert of Franklin, Tenn.; two sons, Joseph Moss of Marion, Ark. and Jonathon Hooper of Mesa, Ariz.; her mother, Kay Kennemore of Sardis; one sister, Sharon K. Forehand of Sardis; three brothers, Henry H. Kennemore Jr. of Sardis, Daniel Kennemore of Farmington, Mo. and Ross Kennemore of Sardis and five grandchildren.

Lillian Alice Jackson

SARDIS– Lillian Alice Jackson, 87, formerly of Sledge, died Monday, May 9 at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services were Wednesday, May 12 at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis.

Mrs. Jackson was born September 15, 1922 to the late Frank and Alma Bourdon Howze Harry in New Augusta, was a homemaker and a member of Sledge Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Haywood Jackson; three sisters, Bourdon Commer, Mary Locke-Porter and Sara Rogers and one brother, Henry Harry.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam Bullard of Sardis and Marlyn Parker of Bartlett, Tenn.; two sons, Al Jackson of Atlanta, Ga., and Harry Jackson of Collierville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

Wanda Rose McCullar

SARDIS– Wanda Rose McCullar, 69, died Monday, May 10 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Funeral services were Wednesday, May 12, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kevin Crofford officiated. Burial was in Love Joy Cemetery in Pope.
Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Mrs. McCullar was born in Halls, Tenn., to the late Ruben and Clora May Riddick Burrow. She was a clerk for Forrest Hill Funeral Home and a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Leon McCullar.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Dye McCullar and Lisa Gale Dunavant, both of Southaven; one sister, Janice Sue Cook of Independence; one brother, Bobby Gerald Burrow of Plano, Texas; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Christine Kelso Smith

MARKS– Mary Christine Kelso Smith, 86, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Sunday, May 9 at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial was in Belen Cemetery. Dr. Laurie Jones officiated.

Mrs. Smith, born November 11, 1923 in Webb to the late John and Martha Stapp Kelso, was a member of First Baptist Church in Marks.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lill Ward “Pud” Smith, and two sons John Ward Smith and Jack Wayne Smith.

Survivors include one son Roger Smith of Marks; one daughter, Julia Norwood of Batesville; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Edgar Norris Sullivan

SARDIS– Edgar Norris Sullivan, 71, died Friday, May 7 at his daughter’s home in Olive Branch.

Services were Tuesday, May 11 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis.

Well Funeral Home had charge.

Mr. Sullivan, born to the late William Clinton and Clara Sheley Sullivan was a retired pipe fitter and a member of Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Memphis.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Roselyn Sullivan Holland and Loyce Sullivan Flint; and three brothers, Horrace, Morris and Thomas Sullivan.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Sullivan Ives of Olive Branch; one son, Christopher Norris Sullivan of Memphis; two sisters, Dottie Sullivan Kirkpatcrick of Morrow, Ga., and Peggy Sullivan Carder of Everette, Wa.; and five grandchildren.

Thomas S. Wilkerson

COURTLAND– Thomas S. Wilkerson, 63, died Monday, May 10 at Baptist Memorial Hospital- DeSoto.

Services were Thursday, May 13, at Union Baptist Church is Sardis with burial in the church cemetery.

Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Mr. Wilkerson, son of the late Tyson S. and Katheryn Bailey Wilkerson, was born in Coldwater and worked for the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Forbes Wilkerson of Courtland; one daughter, Diane Rene Wilkerson of Courtland; one son, Thomas S. Wilkerson II, of Southaven; one brother, Rev. Albert W. Wilkerson of Columbus and two grandchildren.
