ND’s Kimzey, Waldrip sign basketball scholarships with Northwest ladies

The front vestibule at North Delta was the setting as two basketball players signed to for the Northwest Community College Lady Rangers.
Lauren Kimzey and Sara Waldrip signed national letters of intent with Northwest before they cross the stage to graduate next Friday night.
Both girls said they wanted to play college basketball for a long time. Kimzey said she wanted to play every since she started playing at North Delta in grade school. Waldrip said she told her grandmother when she was little that she wanted to play. Both girls also have favorite professional basketball players. Kimzey said her favorite player is Los Angles Laker guard Kobe Bryant.
“I knew you were going to say that,” said her mother Michelle.
Waldrip’s favorite player is WNBA Atlanta Dream forward/guard and former Ole Miss Lady Rebel Armintie Price.
Kimzey averaged 11.4 points per game, was an 80 percent free throw shooter and 36.4 percent field goal shooter. She had 29 steals this past season and averaged 3.4 rebounds per game.
Waldrip averaged nine points per game, shot 59.3 percent from free throw range and 40 percent from field goal range. She had 168 rebounds this year, an average of seven per game.
The North Delta Golf team played in the state tournament Tuesday and placed fifth.
The team registered a score of 341 with team members Alan Larson, 80, Sean King and Bailey Gucker, 85 each and Levi Garner, 91.
Lamar School won the AA state title.
