Lady Tigers survive Eagle clash

After crushing the Horn Lake Lady Eagles 11-1 12 days ago, the South Panola Lady Tigers had to battle to get an 8-6 victory Tuesday night on the road.

With game tied at six in top of the seventh, Lady Tigers’ center fielder Christa Brown drilled a shot to left field picking up her fourth RBI of the night when first baseman Lauren Calvert and designated player Diamond Browning scored.

With a scoreless game, Lady Tigers’ catcher Amanda Ivy started the rally with a single in top of the second. Browning, shortstop Paige Jordan, right fielder Madison Taylor, Brown and second baseman Chelsea Allen all got on base. Scoring runs were Ivy, Browning, Jordan, Taylor and Brown. Picking up an RBI was Taylor, Brown and Allen.

Lady Eagle left fielder Jessica Dexter scored the team’s first run in bottom of the third.

The Lady Tigers came up empty in top of the fourth while the Lady Eagles tacked two more runs when pitcher Amber Reyes and center fielder Kristen Wade scored.

In top of the fifth, the Lady Eagles scored three more runs to take a 6-5 lead over the Lady Tigers. Scoring were catcher Meagan Church, Reyes and shortstop Brittany Minton.

Brown singled in the sixth inning. With Allen at bat, Brown stole second. Allen hit an RBI single to plate Brown for the tie at six.

Nicole Fullilove picked up the win for the Lady Tigers throwing 110 pitches, allowing six hits and striking out eight. Her team recorded six errors and left nine on base.

Reyes got the loss for the Lady Eagles allowing eight hits. Her team made six errors and left seven on base.

According to Lady Tiger head coach Ashleigh Hicks, her team came in the game pumped.

“Christa Brown won the game for us,” Hicks said. “She hit, scoring two runners. Nicole (Fullilove) struck out Horn Lake’s three and four hole batters in the bottom of the seventh with runners on second and third with no outs.”

The Lady Tigers hosted Starkville in a district game yesterday, but the score was not available at press time.

South Panola will host Charleston today in non-conference action in a junior varsity game only at 5 p.m.

The Lady Tigers will host Columbus in a district game Monday starting at 5 p.m. with the junior varsity, followed by the varsity.
