SP track brings home 3 first place finishes

Five boys from the South Panola track team participated in the Tri-State Invitational Track Meet held at the Liberty Bowl Fairgrounds in Memphis on Saturday and returned home with four medals.

Winning first place in the 400 meter dash was Montez Griffin with a time of 49.2 seconds. Tony Conner won first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.1 seconds.

Receiving first place in the 4 x 200 (800-meter relay) were Griffin, Conner, Greg Hayes and Nick Brassell with a time of 1:15.8.

In the 4 x 100 race (400-meter relay), Hayes, Brassell, Conner and Al Hentz placed second with a time of 43.7seconds.

The Chickasaw Conference Track meet will be held at Desoto Central High School on Thursday and Saturday. The field events will be on Thursday starting at 4:30. The relay races will be held Saturday starting at 2.

Two Batesville Jr. High pole vaulters finished first and second at the Oxford Invitational Thursday. Eighth grader Gauge Reed finished first and seventh grader Dakota Johnson finished second.

Both had jumps of seven-and-a-half feet, but Reed had fewer misses.
