Floyd Bryant Sr.

SMITH COUNTY– Floyd Bryant Sr., 92, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Graceland Care Center Hospice in Oxford. He was a Senior Deacon at New Hope Baptist Church in Harmontown.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home in Memphis. Donnie Hill will officiate. Visitation will be on hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Bryant, born Dec. 3, 1917, to William Eugene Bryant and Laura Alice Coleman, was a tire and real estate salesman and an adult scout leader.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Harvey Mae Bryant and one grandson. Jon-Eric Hope.

Survivors include: two daughters, Laura Hope, Ernestine Kelly; one son, Floyd Bryant; one sister, Helen Marie Pittman of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Otis “Bull” Burgess

BATESVILLE– Otis “Bull” Burgess, 55, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in Memphis.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Batesville Intermediate School Auditorium. Rev. J.A. Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. at the school. Burial will be in Second Concord Cemetery with full military honors. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Burgess, born Aug. 30, 1954, in Batesville, to Jessie Marie Burgess of Batesville and the late Roosevelt Booth, was a member of Second Concord  M.B. Church. He graduated from South Panola High School and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps from 1973 – 1978 serving in the I-STF KCO 3rd Battalion.

Survivors along with his mother include: his wife, Warnner Burgess of Batesville; one daughter, Tatyanna Burgess of Batesville; one step-daughter, Thersa Jones of Batesville; eight brothers, Earnest Burgess, Richard Burgess and Artis Burgess, all of Batesville, David Burgess of Atlanta, Ga., John Burgess of Oxford, John Booth of Memphis, Anthony Booth and Corneilous Booth, both of Illinois and three sisters, Margaret Hinton of Batesville, Brenda Burgess and Michelle Simpson, both of Illinois.

Ruth Ella Hamilton

BATESVILLE– Ruth Ella Hamilton, 84, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Golden Living Nursing Home.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Hamilton, born Jan. 26, 1926, in Batesville, to the late Isaac Morris and Lillian Morris, was in housekeeping at the South Panola Community Hospital and a member of Macedonia M.B. Church.

Survivors include: one son, Isaac Morris of Batesville; one sister, Madis Howard; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Edith Mae Coleman Pratt

POPE– Edith Mae Coleman Pratt, 83, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Wednesday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Pratt, January 23, 1927 to the late Bishop Coleman and Allene Goodnight Coleman, was a charter member of the Pope Woman’s Club and was a retired inspector for the Mississippi State Cosmetology Board.  She was a member of the Pope Board of Alderman and Pope Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William N. “Buddy” Pratt.

Survivors include: two daughters, Becky Pratt McMinn and her husband, Runt of Batesville and Kay Pratt Nix of Pope; one son, Terry Pratt and his wife, Chesley of Batesville; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the donor’s choice.
