The North Delta baseball team got the 2010 season off to a rocky start as the Green Wave dropped a 8-2 verdict to  Magnolia Heights Monday night in the Magnolia Heights tournament.

North Delta, (0-1) took on Pillow Academy last night to close the tournament.

The Wave scored both of their runs in top of the first inning against the No 3 ranked Chiefs as Geri Lamm singled to  lead off the game. Jim Tom Copeland followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Ethan Taylor then delivered a two-run single to plate both Lamm and Copeland.

Lamm and Copeland led North Delta offensively with two hits each while Taylor added a single.

Taylor started the game on the mound for North Delta and went three innings while giving up six runs (four earned) while striking out two. Ethan Waldrip pitched two innings while surrendering two runs, both earned, and fanning two batters.

“Ethan struggled early on but settled down and started throwing strikes once he started getting the ball down. He’s done a pretty good job though, “ said North Delta head coach Stoney Stone.

Copeland worked a scoreless sixth inning in relief by throwing only nine pitches.

North Delta will take on Carroll Academy at 11:45 a.m. Saturday in the J. Z. George tournament followed by a 3:15 tilt against the host Jaguars.

The Green Wave will open district play at home Monday against Indianola beginning at 4 p.m. with varsity action followed by the junior varsity.
