Geneva Workman Davis
SARDIS– Geneva Workman Davis, 84, died Monday, February 1, 2010, at her residence.
Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Dr. Randy Hale and Rev. Howard Beam will officiate. Burial will be in Longtown Cemetery. Visitation will be held today at 9 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Davis, born May 27, 1925, in Harrisburg, Ark., to Robert Workman Sr. and Lola Burron Workman, worked in the medical field as a nurse for over 28 years in Clarksdale and North Panola Hospitals.
Survivors include: two daughters, Lola Simmons Cook of Sarah and Cathy Davis Sexton of Jackson, Tenn.; one son, Jody Davis of Sardis; two sisters, Lorena Workman Brunson of Sardis and Opal Workman Hale of Sardis; one brother, Robert “Sonny” Workman Jr. of Crenshaw; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
SUMNER– Evelyn Carson Fields, 68, died Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston. She was the mother of Vonda Womble of Enid.
Services were Monday at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Larry Kilgore and Rev. William Milam officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Fields, born July 6, 1941, was a member of Sumner Baptist Church and The Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors along with her daughter include: her husband, Bobby Fields of Sumer; one son, Bobby Fields of Tunica; one daughter, Mandy Cox of Clarksdale; two sisters, Frances Carson of Enid and Bertha Lee Little of Sumner; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Delores Havas
SARDIS– Delores Havas, 75, died Thursday, January 28, 2010, at her residence.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at at 11 a.m. at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven.
Havas, born Dec. 22, 1934, in Chester, Pa., to the late Tom and Elizabeth Fisher, was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Whitehaven. She was a retired nurse. Visitation will be held today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Twin oaks Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home has charge.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lore Eskridge.
Survivors include: one son, John Havas III; one daughter, Brenda Bell of Memphis; one sister, Betty Ann Woznicki of Delaware; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Sardis Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
Nona Myrtle Sanford
COURTLAND– Nona Sanford, 76, died Thursday, January 28, 2010.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Courtland. Rev. Tammy Herring will officiate. Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Sanford, born March 3, 1933, to the late Monroe Strong and Lillian Strong, attended Courtland School. She was a homemaker and a member of Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jessie James Sanford.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Pearl Sanford Jones and Deloise Sanford, both of Courtland and Elaine Sanford Burgess of Batesville; six sons, James Sanford Jr., Bobby Lee Sanford, Jerry Wayne Sanford, Jeffery Sanford and Ricky Joe Sanford, all of Courtland and David Sanford of Pope; two brothers, Eugene Strong and Monroe Strong, both of Courtland; two sisters, Annie Farmer and Margaret Sanford both of Courtland; 40 grandchildren and 70 great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy Presley Kennedy
SkalanyHartsville, Tenn.– Dorothy Presley Kennedy Skalany, 71, died January 25, 2010, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Skalany, born Feb. 6, 1938, in Guntown, to the late Marion “Spike” Eugene Presley and Hazel Presley Baldwin, was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church in Harrisburg, Ill. and was an Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alton Kennedy and second husband, John Skalany and a granddaughter, Christina Marie Ewan.
Survivors include: two daughters, Barbara Kay White of Glenwood, Ill., and Belinda J. Kennedy Parrinello of Silex, Mo.; six sisters, Annie Pearl Callihan, Dean Brown, Estellene Gordon, Lorraine Hicks, Nellie Haggermaker and Louise Goering; three brothers, Herman Presley, Thomas Leon Baldwin and Ocie Baldwin; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
