Dennis Ray Fitts
OXFORD– Dennis Ray “DeDe” Fitts, 60, of Oxford died at his home on Monday, January 11, 2010.
Services were Thursday at Coleman’s Funeral Home.
Fitts, Born in Pleasant Grove to the late John Arthur and Alyce Fitts, lived in Oxford since 1984, where he served as supervisor of the Oxford Post Office and postmaster of the University Post Office. He had also worked at the Batesville Post Office.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Oxford, where he served as food services director for 14 years. He was ordained a deacon at Como Baptist Church and served as a deacon at FBC before he joined the church staff.
Survivors include: his wife of 37 years, Beth Fitts; his two daughters, Lynndy Hurdle and Marni Herrington of Oxford; his brother, Jimmy Fitts of Olive Branch, and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 800 Van Buren Avenue, Oxford, MS 38655 or to the NAPUS Postal Scholarship Fund in his memory, P.O. Box 126, Tutwiler, Miss 38963.
Mary Etta Martin
TAYLOR– Mary Etta Martin, 96, retired ICS Center Director for Weems Headstart, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Services will be held Saturday at noon at Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building with Rev. Jamuel Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Yocona Cemetery, Taylor.
Visitation will held be today from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Hodges-Serenity Funeral Home in Oxford.
She is a member of North Hopewell M.B. Church, where she was a member; serving on the Mother Board, deaconess board, Sunday school teacher, youth leader and secretary for Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Women’s Auxilary. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star-Batsheba Chapter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oresta Martin.
Survivors include: two daughters, Millie Morgan of Batesville, Eulastine Thompson of Taylor; one son, Sterling Martin of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Girlly McGlown of Bellville, Mich.; two brothers, James L. Mitchell of Grand Prairie, Texas; Lawrence Mitchell of Taylor; 14 grandchildren 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
COLDWATER– Novelene Wallace, 59, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010.
Services will be held Saturday at noon at Central Avenue Church of Christ. Burial will be in Looxahoma Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held today 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Rodgers Funeral Home has charge.
Wallace was a banker and a member of Central Avenue Church of Christ in Coldwater.
Survivors include: two sisters, Wynonia Rowell of Coldwater and Mary Irene Nichols of Chicago; four brothers, Z.P. Wallace of Weagan, Ill., J.C. Wallace of Hernando, L.H. Wallace of Coldwater and Otis James Wallace of Como.
