 Doyle Beard

COMO–Doyle Beard, 88, died Friday, January 1, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford.

Funeral services were Sunday, January 3, at Wells Funeral Home. Interment followed at Harmontown Cemetery in Como.

Beard was a retired truck driver for Yellow Freight having worked for approximately 35 years. He was a Baptist and loved fishing, hunting, gardening, boating and especially had a love for dogs.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Beard, and his wife, Ruby Ruth Pace Beard.

Survivors include his son, Doyle Beard, Jr. of Como; daughters, Lynn Beard Tomlin of Cleveland, Tenn., and Billie Beard Holden of Como; and two grandchildren, Stacy Tomlin Giordano and Wade Tomlin, both of Cleveland, Tenn.

Cather Marie Baker

BATESVILLE–Cather Marie Baker, 51, died Monday, Jan. 4 at Baptist Memoria Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford.

Services will be Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at New Bethlehem MB Church in Batesville. Rev. Theodore Sutton will officiate. Internment will follow in the church cemetery.

Baker was born Sept. 18, 1958, to the late Selmer Milton and the late Callie Moore Milton in Sardis. She was a medical billing clerk for North Oak Medical Center and a member of New Bethlehem MB Church. Visitation is Thursday 10 a.m. To 6 p.m. At Cooley’s Mortuary.

Survivors include her husband Lannie Baker of Batesville; three daughters, Erical Baker, Rachel McKinney and Alana Baker, all of Batesville; one brother Dennis Milton of Batesville; and two sisters, Doris Ford of Batesville and Linda Baker of Brimingham, Ala. and six grandchildren.

Arthur Lee Fondren Sr.

MEMPHIS–Arthur Lee Fondren Sr., 75, died Sunday, Jan. 3 at his residence.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at Mt. Gillion MB Church in Sardis. Rev. Odell Draper Jr. will officiate. Internment will follow at Orrwood Cemetery in Batesville.

Fondren was born in Batesville on Aug. 27, 1934 to the late Walter Fondren and the late Eva Brown Fondren was a retired truck driver with JB Hunt and a member of Life Christian Center.

Survivors include three daughters, Denise Fondren Brown of Sardis; Brenda Fondren Nash and Annie Jones of Memphis; four sons, Joe Ballentine, Wayne D. Fondren and Arthur Lee Fondren, all of Sardis; and Bruce Fondren of Batesville; two brothers, Joseph Fondren of Oxford, and Casey B. Fondren of Memphis; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Geneva Harris

SARDIS–Geneva Harris, 86, died January 1, 2010 at her residence on Pearl Street. Funeral services will be today at noon at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. The Rev. Cedric Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Sardis. Henderson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Harris was born June 6, 1923 in Sardis and was the daughter of the late M.Z. and Flora Kinsey Harris.

She is survived by five daughters, Loyce Harris Fletcher of Cleveland, Ohio, and Willeva Harris, Gale Harris Deborah Harris, and Vivian Harris, all of Sardis; eight sons, all of Sardis: James Curtis Graham, Melvin Graham, Willie Harris, Darnell Harris, Eddie Joe Harris, Robert Earl Harris, Harry Harris and Arthur Harris.

Betty Jean Coleman Martin

BATESVILLE–Betty Jean Coleman Martin, 81, died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Martin was born March 16, 1928 to the late Clayton Coleman and the late Stella Haney. She was a retired school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Bailey Martin and one daughter, Cynthia Martin Alewine.

Survivors include: four sons, Lee C. Martin. Michael B. Martin, both of Batesville, Joseph B. Martin of Wedgewood, S.C. and Jeffery Allen Martin of Batesville; one sister, Joann Halcomb of Lakeland, Fla; one brother, Eddie Coleman of Van Nuys, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

 

Max Dwain Martindale

COURTLAND–Max Dwain Martindale, 74, died Sunday, January 3, 2010, at his residence.

Memorial services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home.

Martindale, born Nov. 30, 1935, to the late Thomas Lee and Amanda Hentz Martindale, was retired as a Senior Master Sergeant for the United States Air Force. He was retired from the United States Postal Service having worked his entire career at the Courtland Post Office.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Teresa “Maureen” Martindale of Courtland; one daughter, Teresa Karen Martindale Holsonback of Oxford; one son, Michael Shaun Martindale of Courtland and one brother, Thomas Hentz Martindale of Courtland.

Isaac Perry

SARDIS–Isaac Perry, 60, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at his residence.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 9, at Walton Chapel CME Church in Sardis. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Perry was born Feb. 17, 1949 in Como to the late Hosie Perry and the late Josephine Taylor. He was a member of Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como.

Survivors include his wife Elsa Perry of Como; six sons, Isaac Perry II, Cedric Perry, Kedrick Perry, Eric Hammond, Taylor Hammond and Marco Hammond, all of Sardis; four sisters, Bertha Davis, Mattie Spann, Josie Rosenburg and Rosie Bishop, all of Sardis; four brothers, Hosea Perry and Alchester Perry, both of Sardis; and Henry Perry and Calvin Perry both of Memphis; and 20 grandchildren.

 

Frederick Stansberry

SENATOBIA–Frederick Stansberry, 61, died Friday, January 1, 2010, at Grace Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Services were Friday at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cistern Hill Church Cemetery in Como.

Survivors include: his mother, Rosa L. Stansberry of Memphis; four sisters, Carolyn Stansberry of St. Louis, Sandra Slaughter of Norcross, Ga., Patricia Stansberry and Cheryl Lewis, both of Memphis; six brothers, Eric D. Stansberry of Louisville, Ky., Andre Stansberry, James Stansberry and Marcus Stansberry, all of Memphis; three sisters, Janice Cooper and Lisa Goodman, both of Memphis and Teresa Butler of Kansas City, Mo. and two brothers, Kevin Stansberry and Kenneth Stansberry, both of Memphis.

 

Charles Ted Montgomery

 

SUNFLOWER–Charles Ted Montgomery, 82, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola.

Services were Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Sunflower. Burial was in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery near Winona. Boone Funeral Home had charge.

Montgomery, born to the late Andrew Walker and Willie Grace Watts Montgomery, attended Kilmichael public schools. He was a storekeeper and truck driver. He was a member of Sunflower First Baptist Church and a Mason.

Survivors include: his wife, Bettie Mae Ward Montgomery of Sunflower; two daughters, Rosemary M. Southall of Leland and Stephanie M. Burton of Myrtle; three sons, Thurman Montgomery, Larry Montgomery, both of Batesville and Robert Montgomery of Sunflower; one brother, Fred Montgomery of Munford, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
