BATESVILLE— James Berry “Beaver” Beavers, 45, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009.

BATESVILLE— William Franklin Cox, 73, died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at his home.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, December 13 at Wells Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Lynne Smith Cox of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Batesville; three daughters, four sons, two brothers and nine grandchildren.

Michael Dune Dean

SARDIS— Michael Dune Dean, 33, died Friday, December 4, 2009, at his residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cistern Hill M.B. Church. Rev. Cedric L. Richardson will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Dean, born Oct. 26, 1976, to Dan Dean Jr. and Ida Mae Dean, attended North Panola School. He was a member of Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Como.

Survivors include: one sister, Patricia Spearman of Coffeeville and two brothers, James Earl Dean and Gregory Harmon, both of Sardis.

Effie L. Bethany Griffin

SARDIS— Effie L. Bethany Griffin,74 , died Wednesday, November 25, 2009.

Services  were Tuesday, December 1 at Greater Open Door Baptist Church in Memphis. Rev. Y.C. Cox officiated.

Griffin, born Feb. 9, 1935, to the late Dan and Louvenia Biles Bethany, was a member of Greater Open Door Baptist Church where she served as a choir member, member of the Mother’s Board and an active member of the building fund and youth department. She was also a member of the Sunday school department. She graduated from Boooker T. Washington High School and was employed with the Memphis City Schools (Levi Elementary) for 35 years. She was a mentor for the community organization Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Memphis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winston Griffin.

Survivors include: seven sisters, Helen Jackson, Rita Wright, Minnie Carter, Mary E. Swann, Elizabeth Bethany, Darcus Campbell and Carrie Bethany; five brothers, Nolan Bethany Sr., Dan Bethany Jr. Ricky Jackson, Rev. Don Bethany Sr. and Robert Bethany and her foster daughter, Carolyn White.

Lucindy S. Harrison

COURTLAND— Lucindy S. Harrison, 86, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge,

Harrison, born April 16, 1923, in Courtland, to the late George Sanford Sr. and Laura Ford Sanford, was a homemaker and a member of Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include: one son, McArthur Harrison of Courtland; one sister, Urna Sanford of Batesville; four brothers, Louie Sanford of Batesville, Sidney Sanford and Otto Sanford, both of Courtland and Linwood Sanford of Minneapolis, Minn.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.

J.L. “Bubba” Holmes

MILWAUKEE, Wis.— J.L. “Bubba” Holmes, 67,  formerly of Batesville, died Saturday, December 5, 2009, at St. Luke Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at New Resurrection Church. Burial will be in Vahalla Memorial Park in Wisconsin. New Golden Gate Funeral Home has charge.

Holmes was born to the late Reedie Holmes and Prescilla Holmes.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Holmes of Milwaukee; two daughters, Patricia Holmes Fifer and Pamela Holmes, both of Milwaukee; one son, Anthony Boothe Cargo of Chicago; one brother, F.R. Holmes of Milwaukee and two sisters, Veterine Holmes Fox and Cornelia Holmes James of Batesville.

Cleveland Jones

SENATOBIA— Cleveland Jones, 80, died Sunday, December 6, 2009. He was the father of Willie Jones of Como.

Services will be held Saturday at noon at Thyatira Family Life Center. Visitation will be held today at Rodgers Funeral Home from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Burial will be in Independent Tyro Church Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home has charge.

Jones, was a retired construction worker.

Survivors along with his son include: his wife, Ether Jones of Senatobia; five daughters, Alice Jones, Vuanita McArthur, both of Memphis, Cora Jones, Genise Jones and Classie Mack, all of Senatobia; five sons, David Avant, Denva Jones and Cleveland Jones, all of Senatobia, Jave Jones of Atlanta, Ga. and Jessie Jones of Greenwood; one brother, Emmit Jones of Senatobia; 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Henry Taylor

BATESVILLE— Henry Taylor, 59, died Friday, December 4, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Wednesday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel with a graveside service on Thursday at at Robert Tabernacle Cemetery in Westmoreland, Tenn.Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Taylor, born October 24, 1950, to the late William Woodard Taylor and Vera Olene Sewell Taylor, was a welder and a member of First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Dale Franks Taylor; two step-daughters, Melissa Lucas of Batesville and Loretta Helms of Scottsville, Ky.; two step-sons, Billy “Bubba” Bramlett Jr. of Batesville and Jason Bramlett of Pontotoc; three sisters, Jane King of Lafayette, Tenn., Lottie Patterson of Nashville, Tenn. and Mary Jo Shurm of Hartsville, Tenn.; four brothers, Edward Taylor of Westmoreland, Tenn., Robert Taylor of Lafayette, Tenn., Jessie Taylor of Scottsville, Ky. and Charles Taylor of Lafayette, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

La’Trevion Deshaun Walls

COMO— La’Trevion Deshaun Walls, two weeks, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009.

Services were Wednesday at Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater. Burial was in Simon Chapel Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include: his parents, Latasha Green and Demetric Walls; one sister, Laniyah Nicole Green of Como and his grandparents, Stephanie Green and Donald Gamble of Nebraska.

Willie “W.C.” Chester Woodard

BATESVILLE— Willie “W.C.” Chester Woodard, 78, died Sunday, December 6, 2009, at his residence.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Cold Springs Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Woodard, born August 22, 1931, to the late William Joseph Woodard and Alchie O’Dell Dees Woodard, was an employee for the Corps of Engineers.

He was preceded in death by one son, Chester Lee Woodard.

Survivors include: his wife Geraldine Woodard of Batesville; one daughter, Virginia Woodard Walton of Batesville; one son, Mark Wayne Woodard of Batesville; one brother, R.C. Woodard of Batesville; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Ja’Nay Nicole Sanford

 BATESVILLE— Ja’Nay Nicole Sanford, 15, died Thursday, November 19, 2009.

Services were held Saturday, November 28 at Williams Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Kimberly Fisher officiated.

Sanford, born Nov. 27, 1993, attended the Child Development Center and the Batesville Elementary School from the age of three until her death.

She received many certificates and awards over the years. For several years she won blue ribbons in the wheel chair race at the Special Olympics.

Survivors include: her mother, Renee’ L. Sanford of Batesville; her father, Lee Roy Sanford; five brothers, Shawn Brown, Armond Wiggins, Lee Roy Sanford, Donell Sanford and Dontrell Sanford; two sisters, Angela and LaTonya Sanford; her grandmother, Jean Robinson.
