North Delta teams maul Tunica

What is worse than getting beat by 46 points? Getting beat  58 points by the same team one week later.

That was the case for  the Tunica  Institute girls basketball team as they fell hard to North Delta 66-8 Tuesday  night in the Lady Green Waves home opener. North Delta defeated the Blue Devils 63-17 in Tunica last Monday night in the first matchup between the two schools.

In a game that was basically over within the first four minutes, North Delta jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. The lead grew to 24-0 before Tunica scored their first points with 2:30 left in the first half. Bradi Beard scored eight of her game-high 16 points in the first quarter as the Green Wave took a 26-4 halftime lead. The second half was played using an eight-minute running clock.

Lauren Kimzey  followed Beard in scoring with nine points as ten Green Wave players cracked the scoring column. Laci DuBravec registered eight points while Linsey Hebert and Kourtney Norris added seven points. Sara Waldrip chipped in six points while Katelyn Still added five including a halfcourt buzzer-beating three pointer at the end of the third period. Other scorers included Jordan Pointer with Hanna Greenlee and Hannah Waldrip with two points each.

North Delta, (5-3), shot 37-of 65 from the floor for 57 percent while turning over the ball seven times. Tunica meanwhile turned the ball over 22 times on 4-of-28 shooting

The Green Wave boys and girls Junior High teams were also victorious on the night as the girls coasted to a 46-13 win while the boys posted a 44-28 victory.

Erin Snider and Jordan Pullen  led the Junior High Green Wave  in scoring with six points each as 13 players scored. Julianna Morrow, Hastings Neal and Mary Lynn Lewis  each added five points while Katherine Rich contributed with four. Claire Gant chipped in with three while Charla Shae Darby, Callie Blake Masterson, Madison Atkinson, Kendall Morrow, Courtney DuBravec and Lillian Weldon rounded out scoring with two points each.

Taylor Morris led the Junior High boys in victory with nine points followed by Hunt Howell with eight, Bradley Booth five, William Dean and Alan Larson four, Jonathan Mackey with three and Renic Greenlee, Hunter Baker, Wilson Morrow, Tyler Beard and Colby Province all with two points each.

Both North Delta boys and girls varsity teams will be back in action today as they take on Memphis Home School in the West Memphis Tournament beginning with the girls contest at 6:30 followed by boys action at 7:45.

Monday, North Delta will host Magnolia Heights in final basketball action before the Thanksgiving holidays. Games start at 2 p.m. with the seventh girls game. four points,
