Four players scored in double figures to lead the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers to a 72-67 season-opening victory against Volunteer State Nov. 3 in Gallatin, Tenn.
Northwest sophomore forward Hope Adams of Oxford, a transfer from the University of Memphis, led the Lady Rangers with 16 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Sabrina Townsend of Batesville added 15 points, while sophomore De’Kisha Fondon of Water Valley scored 14. Freshman forward Dequashia Simpson of Milan, Tenn., was impressive in her debut with 12 points and six rebounds.
Northwest built a 36-28 lead at halftime and stretched its advantage to 18 points in the second half. Volunteer State made a late rally, but the Lady Rangers used baskets by Townsend, Simpson, and Adams to seal the victory.
Northwest shot 41.1 percent from the field by connecting on 28 of 68 attempts. The Lady Rangers converted eight of 22 three-point attempts.
The home opener for Northwest is set for Monday, Nov. 9 at Howard Coliseum in Senatobia. The Lady Rangers host Arkansas Baptist College at 5 p.m.
