Popular tractor show turns 20 this weekend

By Billy Davis

The Antique Engine and Tractor Show will celebrate 20 years as a Panola County event, beginning today with a fish fry and talent show at 5:30.

The Tractor Show continues to be a family-friendly draw, attracting youngsters to participate in several Saturday events: Prettiest Rooster Contest and pumpkin painting (9 a.m.), Bubble Gum Blowing Contest (9:30), and Greased Pig Race (2 p.m).

Saturday’s children’s events also include a first-ever pageant, “Cutest Country Boy and Sweetest Country Girl.” The pageant is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Moms and dads can also participate Saturday – moms in the Ladies Skillet Throw and dads in the Men’s Piston Throw. A Lost Shoe Race will also cause some amusement. Those events begin at 11 a.m.

Of course, a parade of shiny tractors draws a crowd, too.

The parade of John Deeres, Farmalls, Masseys, Fords and other antique tractors will chug around the Sardis Industrial Park Saturday at 10 a.m. The tractor pull begins at noon.

Attendees will also find food vendors, a flea market, and arts and crafts at the Tractor Show.

The weekend weather forecast looks promising. Wet weather is expected to move out by Friday, leaving sunny skies, and highs in the 60s, for Saturday.

The Sardis Industrial Park is located southeast of town on Industrial Park Road.

The Sardis Chamber of Commerce sponsors the show.
