Robert Jackson Browning

LAPLACE  — Robert Jackson Browning, 80, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009.

Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Forrest Memorial Park. Cheryl Holmes Fontenot will preside. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Browning, born Nov. 10, 1928, to the late Horace L. and Elizabeth Reid Browning, was a retired supervisor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Sanders Browning.

Survivors include: his wife, Jessie Sanders Browning of Laplace, La.; one son, Robert J. Browning Jr. of Houma, La.; one sister, Elizabeth Ann Browning of Longview, Texas and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Betty S. Cummins Barlow

CRENSHAW—Betty S. Cummins Barlow, 68, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be held today at Crenshaw Baptist Church. Burial will be in Longtown Cemetery. Pate Jones Funeral Home has charge.

Barlow was a member of Crenshaw Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Barlow Sr.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sissy Barlow Hudspeth of Crenshaw; one son, Oscar Joe Barlow Jr. of Crenshaw; five sisters, Linda Bailey and Joyce Oaks both of Carollton, Jo Ann Swan of Tunica, Shirley Vanden Boogard of Smithvell, Canada and Wandalene Jordan of Oxford; three brothers, Odis Cummins of Arkabutla, Garvin Cummins of Crenshaw and Pinkey Cummins Jr. of Sarah; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.                                

William Lee Comer

BATESVILLE—William Lee Comer, the infant son of Brian Alan Comer and Megan Michelle McMinn of Batesville, died Monday, October 12, 2009.

Memorial services were Wednesday at Dickins Funeral Home.

Survivors along with his parents include: his grandparents, Linda and Mark McMinn and Judy Lee.

Elizabeth Ann McMinn Cosby

COURTLAND—Elizabeth Ann McMinn Cosby, 77, died Monday October 12, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Thursday  at Eureka United Methodist Church in Courtland. Burial was in the church cemetery. Reverend Chris Cooksey and Reverend Clay Baker officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Cosby, born July 30, 1932, to Johnny Fulton Hobson and Willie Cecil Seay McMinn, was a homemaker and a member of Eureka United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, J.W. Cosby Jr. of Courtland; two daughters: Elizabeth Diane Cosby Carlini and Cheryl Darlene Cosby Jones, both of Courtland; three sons: Johnie W. “Billy” Cosby, Randy Wayne Cosby Sr. and Gregory Wade Cosby, Sr., all of Courtland; one sister, Johnnie Lou McMinn Ford of Courtland; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Harry Hoskins

BATESVILLE—Harry Hoskins, 76, died Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Saturday, October 9 at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Elder Walter Dixon officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Hoskins, born June 13, 1933, to the late Hollis Hoskins and Ardellia Baker Hoskins, was a retired self- employed plumber. He was a member of Greater Mt. Zion C.O.G.I.C.

Survivors include: four sons, Lawrence Hoskins Jr. and James Hoskins, both of Batesville, Tony Hoskins of Nesbit and Kevin Hoskins Farmer of Lambert; one daughter, Janice Dancer of Tupelo; three sisters, Geneva Spain and Emmaline Hawk, both of Batesville and Patricia Brown of Clarksdale; nine grandchildren and six  great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Marie “Sissy” Gant Shivers

BATESVILLE—Evelyn Marie “Sissy” Gant Shivers, 41, died Saturday, October 10, 2009, near Lambert.

Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Rev. Kevin Crofford will officiate. Burial will be in Lambert Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Shivers, born Feb. 18, 1968, to Judy Hollingsworth Gant of Lambert and the late Charlie Thomas Gant, was the manager for Kitchen Collection in Batesville.

Survivors along with her mother include: her husband, Paul W. Shivers of Batesville; one son, Harvey Jeremy Smith of Batesville; one daughter, Jennifer Marie Shivers of Batesville and three grandchildren.
