Sharon Lynell Hudson Cummins
SARDIS— Sharon Lynell Hudson Cummins, 39, died Monday, August 17, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Damon Plummer officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Cummins, born Aug. 25, 1969, in Oxford, to James Wesley and Nettie Woodard Hudson of Batesville, served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors along with her parents include: her husband, Allen Cummins of Sardis; one son, Tristan Lee Cummins of Sardis; two sisters, Wanda Hudson Fatheree of Courtland and Rhonda Jane Hudson Campbell of Yulee, Fla.
SARDIS— Ida Mae Dickerson, 59, died Friday, August 14, 2009, at her residence.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. Visitation will be held today from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home in Batesville.
Dickerson, born Dec. 12, 1949, to the late Van and Willie B. Jones, was a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. She graduated from MATC in Milwaukee, Wis. and was retired from the South Panola School District.
Survivors include: one daughter Cszelle Draper, six sisters, Henrietta Cole of Sardis, Elois Carver of Batesville, Magnolia Briscoe and Lula Lee, both of Milwaukee, Jamesetta Perry of St. Louis and Thelma Phillips of Oxford; two brothers, Freddie Jones Sr. and Ivory Jones, both of Milwaukee; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
SARDIS— Odessa Edmonds, 93, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Viney Creek M.B. Church. Rev. Ozine Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Keneth I. Roberson Funeral Home. Rev. Ozine Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Old Viney Creek Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home has charge.
Edmonds was a member of Viney Creek M.B. Church in Sardis where she was a past Sunday School teacher, usher, choir member and youth leader. She was a past 4-H Club scout leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Marshall Edmonds.
She is survived by one daughter, Allie Vee Edmonds of Sardis.
OXFORD— Otis Laird Sr., 93, formerly of Batesville, died Thursday, August 13, 2009, at the State Veteran’s Home in Oxford.
Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Walter Newsom will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held today from noon – 1 p.m. at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Laird, born Sept. 22, 1915, to the late Willie Shrank and Augusta Laird, was a retired laborer and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include: two sons, David Pearson of Batesville and Otis Laird of Stevens Point, Wis.; 22 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
SARDIS— Margaret Lewis Lundgren, 85, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Thursday at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. Dayna Goff officiated. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
Lundgren, born Nov. 6, 1923, in Antioch, Tenn., to the late George and Elizabeth Richards, was employed by E.H. Crump. After moving to Sardis she owned an antique store. She was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elmer Lewis and Nils A. Buddy Lundgren and her children, Elaine Morgan and Richard Lewis.
Survivors include: her step-son, Nils L. Lundgren of Sardis; her step-daughter, Betty Luther of Saltillo; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

LAFAYETTE— Vermon Malone, 78, a retired inspector for a manufacturing company, died August 13, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital -North Mississippi.
Services were Tuesday at Jeffrie Chapel M.B. Church. Rev. MacArthur King officiated. Burial was in Owens Cemetery. Hodges Serenity Funeral Home had charge.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Malone Jr.
Survivors include: eight daughters, Rozetta Brown, of Olive Branch, Luella Marzette of Flint, Mich.; Laverne Thompson and Margaret Eggerson of Oxford, Cora Malone, Novella Boone, Martha A. Thompson and Tabitha Marion, all of Abbeville; four sons, Leroy Malone, of Atlanta, Ga., James Calvin Malone of Oxford, Charles Malone of Batesville, Hank Malone of Wake Forest, N.C.; two sisters, Emma McKinney, of Detroit, Mich., Marrine Turner of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Russell Alexander of Omaha, Neb.; 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson
MANILA, Ark.— John Ryan McVay, 19, died Sunday, August 16, 2009, at his residence. He was the nephew of Ruby Yarbrough of Courtland, Jean Briggs and Jimmy Barlow of Batesville and Timmy Barlow of Courtland.
Services were Thursday at Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Manila. Rev. Robert White and Gary Galloway officiated. Burial was in Manila Cemetery. Howard Funeral Home had charge.
Survivors along with his aunts and uncles include: his parents, John Thomas McVay Jr. of Shepherd, Texas and his mother Ruby Hitchcock Schrader of Manila; his grandparents, James and Hattie Hitchcock of Manila; his great-grandmother, Bertha Lorene Galloway of Manila; one brother, Micheal Schrader of Manila and two sisters, Dawn Hitchcock of Manila and Jessica McVay of Shepherd, Texas.
CROWDER— Marvin Ray Williams, 53, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Blue Lake Baptist Church near Crowder. Rev. Dale Beaver will officiate. Burial will be in Crowder Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Williams, born July 1, 1956, to Vera Mae Williams of Crowder and the late John Sharpe Williams was a farmer.
Survivors along with his mother include: one daughter, Patricia Adams of Batesville; two sons, Marty Williams of Crowder and John Joseph Williams of Courtland; two sisters, Carolyn Russell of Oakland and Jeanette Williams of Texas; one brother, James Williams of Crowder and four grandchildren.
