A single-vehicle accident Friday evening left one dead and one injured, according to Sgt. Leslie White of the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

The accident happened when the ‘98 Monte Carlo driven by James Hollingswoth, 45, of Henry Heafner Road, apparently left the roadway near the intersection of Highway 315 West and Union Road and hit a tree.

Hollingsworth died later at an unknown hospital, White said.

William Nye, 35, also of Henry Heafner Road, was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the collision and received minor injuries.

A second passenger, Carl Hawkins, 39, of Cheyenne, Wyo., was uninjured.
