Voters in Ward 2 in Sardis ousted their incumbent aldermen in favor of a second-time candidte.
Clarence “Boo Boo” Jones was certified as the new alderman Wednesday morning after affidavits were counted.
Jones defeated Rufus “Bill” Smith 102-82. Smith was serving his first term after defeating Jones in 2005.
Reached by phone Wednesday morning, Smith said he was not ruling out contesting the results.
“My plan of it is to review the box next and then I will make my decision,” he said.
Smith said he thought there was a good voter turnout but alleged there may have been county voters allowed to cast ballots in the election.
“I feel like there was a good turnout, but there were some that should have never been allowed to vote from out in the county,” he said.
Sardis has one board seat remaining to be determined during the June 2 general election when incumbent Ward 1 alderman Joseph “Jo Jo” Still faces GOP challenger Boots Still.
