William Douglas “Doug” Henderson

BATESVILLE– William “Doug” Henderson, 88, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Karen O’Brien, Rev. David Snellgrove, Dr. David Ball and Ronnie Darby officiated. Military honors were given at Greenleaf Cemetery in Coldwater. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Henderson, born May 20, 1920, in Tate County, to the late Iverson Floyd and Wilma Casey Henderson, was a retired civil service employee. He served as staff sergeant in the United States Air Force during WWII where he was a prisoner of war for 13 1/2 months. He was former commander and chief of the Northern Mississippi Chapter of X-POWs. He was a member of the VFW and Masonic Lodge No. 66 and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Dix Henderson.

Survivors include: one daughter, Carol Lee Henderson of Batesville; one son, William Donald Henderson of Hernando; three grandchildren, Donnie Henderson, Kim Daigle and Sandi Wallace; three great-grandchildren, Tiffany Henderson, Adam Howington and Chase Howington.

 

Rev. Walter Lee Nash Sr.

Rev. Walter Lee Nash Sr., 83, died WEdnesday, May 6, 2009 at The VA Hospital in Memphis.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at the Batesville Civic Center. Rev. Jacob Hentz will officiate. Interment will follow at New Bethlehem Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and from 5 to 8 p.m. at New Bethlehem Church. Also, the body will lie in repose one hour before the funeral at the Civic Center.

Survivors include his wife, Nina Nash; six daughters, eight sons, 43 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildre and five great-great-grandchildren.

Cooley’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Gloria Swanson Crosthwait Newman

Gloria Swanson Crosthwait Newman, 83, died Friday, May 8, 2009.

Funeral services are Sunday, May 10, at 4 p.m. at Newsom Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Enid.

Newsom Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

She is survived by three sons and one son; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
