School workers temporarily repaired a large hole in a Batesville Intermediate School with plastic sheeting Wednesday. The wind had uprooted one of the big schoolyard oaks.

Ricky Brown saws through an oak in the backyard of Jimmy and Bessie McCloud. A limb from the falling tree penetrated an unoccupied rear bedroom as it fell.

Jimmy McCloud worked his cell phone Thursday, asking insurance questions and seeking debris removal. He stands near the base of the big oak which fell on his home. Like most of the oaks easily uprooted by the wind from the rain-saturated ground, it had a very limited root system.
